Fox News –
British actor Albert Finney, known for his starring roles on “Tom Jones,” “Erin Brockovich” and the James Bond thriller “Skyfall,” has died at age 82.
The actor’s family confirmed Finney’s death to the Associated Press on Friday morning saying he “passed away peacefully after a short illness with those closest to him by his side.”
Finney was a rare star who managed to avoid the Hollywood limelight for more than five decades after bursting to international fame in 1963 in the title role of “Tom Jones.”
The film gained him the first of five Oscar nominations. Others followed for “Murder on the Orient Express,” ”The Dresser,” ”Under the Volcano” and “Erin Brockovich.”
My favorite Albert Finney character – Scrooge
RIP Mr. Finney, you were a fine actor.
I always loved Albert’s voice. Fare thee well, Mr. Finney.
Loved him in Big Fish.
I was watching one of my favorite movies “Tom Jones” on TCM when the news of his death came across the Internet. He was just amazing in “Tom Jones” and almost all of his other roles, but I especially liked him in “Two for the Road”, “Shoot the Moon”, “Gumshoe”, “The Green Man”, “Murder on the Orient Express”, “Miller’s Crossing”, and “Under the Volcano.” If you haven’t seen some of these other movies, try to catch them to discover what an accomplished actor Albert Finney was in these other movies. God speed, Albert Finney.
A steady and compelling performer that will be missed and not easily matched.
Don’t forget the movie Looker and his performance in the 1990 Roger Waters Berlin concert of The Wall where he played the judge.
82, pretty good run. Sleep well
“…Finney was a rare star who managed to avoid the Hollywood limelight for more than five decades…”.
You mean people weren’t treated to every sordid (or not sordid) detail of his life and his opinion on everything?! “Rare”, indeed. And refreshing. Too bad most of today’s celebrities don’t have a tenth if his class.

He was an amazing actor.
One of my favorite movies he appeared in was “Shoot the Moon”.
No one probably remembers it, but it was an amazing movie about a tragic divorce. Still sticks with me.
Tamminator: I remember it. “Shoot the Moon” was a great movie about a difficult marriage with Albert Finney and Diane Keaton. Painfully honest portrayals with daughters caught in the middle of their parents’ acrimonious divorce. If you want to enjoy another obscure movie that Albert Finns was riveting in, watch “Gumshoe” if you can locate it.
Leo O’ Bannon in “Miller’s Crossing” – the movie that SHOULD’VE won best picture for 1990.
RIP
Enjoyed his work.
