Of the three, I liked Leon Russell. I saw Dr. John at a concert once, he was not the headliner, but he was damn good.
Dr. John playing some nice piano riffs, wrapping in, out, and around his “Such a Night”.

Yup, liked them all but Russell was my favorite, too. He really shines on The Concert For Bangladesh.
I remember that song when I was in jr high. Saw him a half dozen times over the years. AKA Mac Rebbenack. Will be missed!
May he rest in peace in God’s hands.
Even though I prefer Professor Longhair’s version, Dr. John did a mighty fine version of one of my favorite songs, Tipitina.

p.s. I loved Leon Russell’s work also.
I WAS A JUNIOR NAVY OFFICER STATIONED IN LONG BEACH CA..HAVING A BEER NEXT TO A BEAUTIFUL “MILF” IN SEAL BEACH..IN CHATTING WITH HER, I FOUND THAT SHE WAS LEE MICHAEL’S EX..MARY HUGHES, WHAT A BABE, OMG!! MUCH OLDER, BUT…WOW!!
WE WALKED TO THE PARKING LOT, SHE GAVE ME HER PHONE # AND A KISS…I GAVE HER MY HOTEL ROOM # AND LEFT..LATER, WITH ANOTHER GIRL IN MY HOTEL ROOM, SHE CALLED, THE OTHER GIRL ANSWERED AND HUNG UP ON HER!!@&&%%$@@@…SHE ALSO FOUND MARY’S PHONE NUMBER AND TOSSED IT!!
NEVER DID HOOK UP WITH MARY, BUT LIKED LEE MICHAEL’S SONGS!!
MARY IS GONE NOW, DIED YOUNG, BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!!
NOT SURE ABOUT THE OTHER GIRL…
May he rest in peace.
He’s with good friends, and in good hands.
Johnny Winter & Dr John – Love, life money

Are Johnny or Edgar Winter still around?
Johnny is deceased (July 16, 2014), Edgar is still alive.
Time for a weekend in New Orleans. See what Katrina missed. Anybody know where a Datsun with a key in the ashtray might be parked?
I hope he is now in the Right Place at the RIGHT time.
The leader of the Electric Mayhem?
Go ahead, fukkin goole it, I dares ya.
RIP Dr. John … great NOLA memories
I saw Leon Russell back in 86 at the Coach House in Capistrano – he looked ancient then. We all gotta go down.
Shit. Leon irritated the shit out of me for many reasons… his out of tune Les Paul… and some other shit that seems very small now.
I remember Dr. John from the Sunday Blues Hour on the Classical Music FM. It wasn’t an hour… it was 24 hours of deep cut Blues every Sunday. That’s where I first heard Leadbelly, Muddy Waters (a la Folk Singer), Chester Burnett, Blind Lemon (whatever). Even Freddie King and Elmore James. They weren’t quite onto Robert Johnson in those days. But you did hear some of that. We heard Sidney Bechet and Lionel Hampton, too, and were justly confused. But, in the end, it was the best of the best.
I sawDr. John at Jazz Alley in Seattle give or take thirty years ago. It’s a very good show.
i have a friend that toured Europe with him or Leon, i forget which. But my buddy plays keys too so it was probably Leon.
He loved what he did, and I loved it too, what a talent he was always!
Sincere respect to him forever.
h/t Cherrybark, wow, great tune! “Such a Night”
The lights don’t seem as bright in New Orleans tonight……
We’re in the stage of life where all that was a fixture and familiar to us throughout the years begins evaporating little by little.
They’re getting a sandbox ready down here for Brian Wilson.
Just sadly sayin’
RIP
Enjoyed his work.
Didn’t care for him til I saw him in concert – damned talented dude – the radio didn’t play his best stuff.
I’m with BFH. These three guys were extraordinary performers. To lose all three of them back to back to back is stunning to me.
Woman of the country now I’ve found you
Longing for your soft and fertile Delta
I never understood that second line. What’s the connection between the Mississippi Delta and sexual desire?
Donde frijole, Chalupa! Where you bean?
More of us heard Leon Russell than imaginable. He was part of the famous Wrcking Crew, a talented bunch of session musicians. We recently lost Hal Blaine, another Wrecking Crew member who played drums on countless hit records. Glen Campbell was anothert, same with Tommy Tedesco.
Damn. 😔
