  1. Tosses picks to his fans.
    👍

Who will they get to play a tribute concert? Probably mostly guys from Eastern Europe you’ve never heard of, who studied Eddies playing since he started.

    Rest in peace, Eddie.

  2. *sigh* Soundtrack to high school and art school. Van Halen on heavy rotation on MTV. Who wanted to be Valerie Bertinelli-because she was super cute and Eddie was her guy.

Yeah, I had hoped they’d last until the end, but they were married over 25 years so they had a great run. They were known as one of those rock and roll couples who bore a bit of a resemblance to each other.

  4. A true master, one of the best rock guitarists ever. He’s had his drug and alcohol problems in his life. I’ve met him twice and he was a truly a nice man. Rest in peace Eddie. We already miss you.

  5. Don’t know much about the guy.

But every time I saw him play, he was smiling.

Every other string monkey plays their guitar like it’s WORK. Not Eddie. He’s happy to play. HAPPY. That was his biggest influence on me.

PLAY music. It’s supposed to be fun.

  6. Now this one pisses me off.

On Diver Down He plays with his Father (Clarinet)
“Big Bad Bill is sweet William Now”

This is the one I was dreading hearing about. Rumors were everywhere.

Thanks for My Teen years Eddie Alex, Dave, Mike & Sammy!

  7. At one of the worst times in his life with severe drug and alcohol problems years ago he recorded “Catherine” on Y-tube alone in his studio.

At one of his lowest points he still displays a raw talent that few people in this world have. Tormented & twisted it is a MUST WATCH. There was STILL a GENIUS expressing himself and screaming “I’m still here, I still have IT, and I will not be written off or forgotten!

    WATCH IT!

    Godspeed!

Then again in 88? with Sammy at the now defunct Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis.

  9. I met him in person about 25ish years ago. I went way early to the venue with a guy I was dating, because he was such a fan (had dreams of being a famous rock guitarist), and we were standing by the entrance to where the band entered when they came in from their bus (surprised that security hadn’t asked us to leave). He actually stopped and talked to us and was very nice. RIP

  10. …this was actually written about Jimi Hendrix, but it fits, it fits…

    “I heard a man’s guitar electrify a crowd
I felt the sound shower ’round
And he would take you with him where no music’s been before
As you merged the power surge together

His music knew no limits if you were in it’s wake
You had no choice, no, but hear its voice
And you would listen hypnotized, and in a dream
But once so strong survive or become weak

Why do you have to die to be a hero
It’s a shame a legend begins at its end
Why do you have to die if you’re a hero
When there’s still so many things to say unsaid”
    -“Heroes End”, Judas Priest.

Lord comfort this grieving family tonight. He’s gone to his reward to where cancer has no hold.

    RIP EVH

  11. 30 of us Texans went to Glenwood Springs CO about the time the song Jump came out. We built a ski jump in front of the condo’s and played Jump non stop from the balconies, there is no telling how many people got hurt flying off of that damn thing, I was one of them. RIP EVH!

  12. Can’t say that I followed him, but I am certainly aware of his major hits. This is really making me aware of my mortality. I used to joke with friends that our main topics of conversations were our aches, pains and ailments, and back when I still subscribed to the local newspaper I used read the obituaries to see who I knew. But DAMN, 2020 is just kicking ass!

Anyway, RIP EVH and may the Lord comfort your family and friends and help them to celebrate the life that you lived fully.

  13. I’m gonna cry if Meat Loaf goes before I do. Go ahead laugh at me, but I was 16, almost 17 when BOOH came out, had just met Jim and became a lifelong fan. Played his Where Angels Sing softly when Jim was dying, on a loop with Alan Jackson’s Amazing Grace. And hey, he’s a conservative!

  15. So, lately I’ve been playing my guitar and I have a ton of guitar tab magazines/books ripped to my hard drive. For the past 30 minutes, I’ve been looking for one song and I’ll be damned if I haven’t opened up at least nine of them all with Eddie on the front cover…fugggg. RIP Eddie.

  16. Michael Douglas put it so elegantly, “Guys that eat a lot of pussy get throat cancer”.
That HPV Virus can lay dormant for 50 years and an infection will set it off. One of the more treatable cancers but a brutal process. Chemo and Radiation. Not fun.
Eddie had tongue cancer sometime ago and they removed 75% of his tongue. I imagine that compounded the ability to treat the throat cancer.

  17. @Kcir – whatever your partner has eaten or taken into their body will end up in the nether regions (bloodstream, mucous). My cautionary comment has nothing to do with religion or civility. But, you are what you eat. If someone has been taking a certain type of medication and you indulge in oral sex, you will be sampling that medication yourself.
