Used to see him all the time in Harrah’s Casino in Reno, Nevada in the Cabaret before he hit the big time. He seemed to be a very genuine guy when he was talking with the audience between songs. Women just loved him, and he sure appreciated them. Five wives!
He had a psychedelic hit in 1967 called “I Just Dropped In” (I think). It’s still pretty groovy 53 years later.

I’m trying to find it, but I remember people smashing Kenny Rogers records (or were they tapes at the time?) , I can’t remember why, but it was some left-wing crap or unpatriotic comments he made. Did he support the Dixie Chicks? He said SOMETHING, and he has a black mark in my soul, can’t remember what it was, but he said something pretty stupid, that’s for sure.
Need some time to search. Anyone remember back in the ’90s what this guy said that got everyone mad?

Him and Mickey Jones (the drummer from Early Edition and a great character actor) are probably putting together some new tunes for us to hear when we join them. RIP Kenny.

One of the greats. And a decent actor too. I met him by random chance at Falls park in Sioux Falls. A pleasant but short conversation as he was taking photos of the falls. He was alone except for a driver waiting in a car 300 feet away. He had a concert that night. I wont forget our meeting but he probably did.

Strange, how just a single song played or performed decades ago, brings back a flood of memories to the listeners who listened to that song for the first time during that day and time. Those were good times when most people are taken back just by a song playing again years later.
Will miss you buddy, for reminding me of those memories, along with mostly 100 million, or so, other people who listened and bought a copy.
Enjoyed all his music but especially his time with First Edition. RIP

Having read his bio over the last couple of days, he had a stint with the New Christy Minstrels in the folk music trend of the early to mid 1960’s. So he “re-invented” himself several times: folk to psychedelic rock, to country, to crooner.
The only thing he didn’t do was disco, as far as I know.
