  1. Nooooo! Meatloaf was a huge part of my music growing up, and always a hoot in whatever show he was on. Seriously, who doesn’t have his ‘Bat Out of Hell’ album and/or CD? So sad…

    RIP, Meatloaf.

  2. “He puts Drake, Kanye, and, P-shitty to shame.”

Virtually anyone that doesn’t mumble unintelligible lyrics in a “song” can do that.

    RIP Meatloaf and thanks.

  3. What a powerful voice and great songs. Bat Out of Hell is a terrific album. I remember he was on a talk show in the 90s (?)and recounting the time his daughter came home from school and told him her teacher was using the song, “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” as part of sex education. The reaction to his daughter’s declaration was priceless.

  5. I’ll have to look through 2,500 LP albums my mother left me in her estate. I’ll have to look through the albums to see if there’s one for Meat Loaf. My mother collected EVERYTHING, even heavy metal, she liked the album covers.

  6. I was traveling in the UK and bought his greatest hits cassette.
It had songs from Bat Out Of Hell, and Back Into Hell.
I never removed the cassette for anything else.
Songs like “I’d Lie For You And That’s The Truth” are iconic.

Always liked his name being Meat Loaf Aday.

    Rest my brother.

  7. Every teenager should be compelled to watch a video of Paradise by the Dashboard Light … greatest sex-ed cautionary tale of all time. (And, and absolutely brilliant achievement in lyrics and music.)

  8. True Story – I recall soon after “Bat Out Of Hell” was released I was making out with a girl in my car when “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” came on the radio. I’m listening to the song and anticipating where the storyline goes compared to my current situation. Soon we both completely lost interest in the activities and decided to drive to the local pizza shop instead.

  9. …he made it to “until death do us part”, but “the end of time” is still out of reach…

    “[Boy:]
I couldn’t take it any longer
    Lord, I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
    Like a tidal wave
I started swearing to my god
    And on my mother’s grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore I’d love you to the end of time

    [Both:]
So now I’m praying for the end of time
    To hurry up and arrive
‘Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don’t think that I can really survive
I’ll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I’m praying for the end of time
It’s all that I can do (ooh, ooh)
Praying for the end of time
So I can end my time with you”

RIP to a great and underappreciated singer.

No disrespect but if you look at even this old video, how out of shape he is, how sweaty he is, how passionately all-in he is, and realize that’s the way he lived till the end, it’s a little surprising he made it THIS long…

    Godspeed, Marvin Lee Aday.

May the Lord comfort your freinds and family.

  10. ChiGuy, Phil Ruzzuto’s play-by-play on that song is epic.

All three “Bat” albums are fantastic.
Bat III ‘The Monster’s Loose’ has 14 great songs that most have never heard.
“In The Land of the Pig, the Butcher is King” “Alive” “Blind as a Bat”
    AWESOME!
    Buy it!

Thing is, I have bought ‘Bat Out of Hell’ many times.
    In vinyl, cassette, CD…
    Parents actually had the 8-Track.
They only had a few different 8-track cassettes but had that one.

  11. Goldenfoxx – Someone once said “If Digital is the McDonalds of music, then Vinyl is the fine dining experience”
Cover art on an LP is just one more reason why that is true. Cherish your Mom’s collection!

  12. I had the album(bat out of hell) and still have the CD somewhere. Will try to find it this evening and just REMEMBER.I graduated high school in 1977 when this album came out and we burnt our 8 tracks up playing it but tonight I will see paradise again by the dashboard lights on cd, its not the same though.”I would do anything for love, but I won’t do THAT” to me was one of his best songs but came out later. He had the voice of an Opera star.
