On Wednesday, Rite Aid, owner of Seattle-based Bartell Drugs, announced it will be permanently closing the chain’s Ballard location at 15th and Market on June 8 as the area continues to grapple with rampant shoplifting and crime.
In a release, Rite Aid said the store will be closed “on a variety of factors including business strategy, lease and rent conditions and viability, and store performance.”
Bartell Drugs, with 67 locations across the Pacific Northwest according to their website, like many other stores in the Seattle area, has been a focal point for crime and shoplifting with many retailers closing due to crime concerns. MORE
Ballard used to be one of the nicer old established neighborhoods in the Seattle area. It’s a shame, I guess no neighborhood is safe in Seattle anymore. Is the Archie McPhee’s novelty store still open in the Ballard area?
It must be in their DNA for democRATS to turn everything they touch to SHIT!
I’m surprised Rite Aid is still around since for years they were saddled with a huge debt partially from buying Thrifty Drug as I recall..
It’s not going to get any better. Drugs have been decriminalized in WA state. The Seattle City Council had a chance to change that within the city…nope.

I’m noticing a tend in our conservative little NoCal county. The store down in Sac county are not closing, but they’re locking up the majority of what they sell. So now the little bastards are driving to our foothill communities and trying there thieving ways up here. And it’s not working out so well for them. Our Sheriffs department is arresting the hell out of the. So just sayen, if you live near a shit hole, don’t be surprised to see them come to your area.
self-inflicted rx desert
I think Ballard was one of the areas ruined by social engineering, just as West Seattle has been destroyed.
But don’t worry, much of the limited resources of the Seattle PD will be used to protect the neighborhoods where the important people live. You know, the neighborhoods that were exempt from Seattle’s highly praise school bussing efforts many years ago.
My AO requires a ferry ride or a long ass drive around Elliot Bay to get here from Seattle. And unlike western WA, from what I’ve seen, there’s a lot of independent, shall we say, folks living on the Peninsula.
Business strategy- ok we’re out of this Demorat hell hole.
We all end up paying in the form of higher prices.
@Brad
Catalytic converter thieves have visited our neighborhood one street over. We went out on Sunday to grab a pizza in our smallish town. There is a definite uptick in “bicycle” people and vagrants where there wasn’t before. Our PD are pretty pro active but these stupid new laws impede them from stopping the bad guys. At least their social media isn’t shy about stating that fact over and over in trying to educate the complainers and clueless.
Vote differently, you dipsh*ts.
Ballard was a meme in Seattle and western Washington. The old Norwegian, parked at the curb, dressed in a slicker with hat, a seatbelt hanging out the door, car idling, and he’s asleep.
Very low key old fashioned white culture residential area with commercial and industrial in the same old fashioned white culture way.
Apparently they are now enjoying the vibrant mud people culture now. Adapt, drive the darkies out, or die out yourselves, is the only way. Government hates you and wants you dead whitey, you scare them.
