Runners attempting to share their victory are disqualified

Know the rules of your sport, Thelma and Louise! And stop with the kumbaya/feelings crapola.

newser- Jessica Learmonth and Georgia Taylor-Brown were in step with each other for much of the World Triathlon Olympic qualification event in Tokyo Thursday, and so as the British triathletes crossed the finish line before anyone else, they grabbed hands. That move ended up getting them both disqualified, the Guardian reports.

The International Triathlon Union has a rule stating that athletes may not “finish in a contrived tie situation where no effort to separate the finish times has been made.”

A photo finish initially handed the victory to Learmonth, but both athletes were soon disqualified and an appeal was rejected. Flora Duffy of Bermuda ended up in first place and Alice Betto of Italy in second, the BBC reports, with another British athlete, Vicky Holland, ending up in third place.

  1. Not kumbaya but they actually did get screwed.
I try and judge things fairly as possible, not feel-good.

Most races have start time = gun time for the elites.
They have chips that record the finish times.
It seems that one runner did finish 1/100 of a second or so faster and was awarded the win.
Someone bitched that they briefly held hands.
    So fucking what.
I doubt their intent (fuck you James Comey) was to finish in a dead heat.
They aren’t siblings, same team, or even train together.
They were just happy to finish a race that was very hot and humid, even though it started at 7 AM
    They got a raw deal.

  2. Hate it when people finish races that way. It’s basically a virtue signaling “fuck you” to all the other competitors. It’s a fucking Race, stupid. If you don’t want to win it outright, then don’t run in front.

  3. @Loco, they did not compete against each other. It is a competition, not an exhibition. I am a NY Giants fan and was pissed off as hell in 2001 when Brett Favre laid down late in the fourth quarter to Michael Strahan in order TO STEAL the season sack record from Mark Gastineau.

  4. @Meerkat Brzezinski:
So Brett Fabre was supposed to let Michael Stratham clobber him (with possible injuries) just so Michael could get his trophy? That has had you pissed off for 18 years?

  5. @Tony, GFY. It’s just an example, I haven’t been pissed off for 18 years, but I WAS at the time. Do you know the meaning of “WAS”, moron?

FYI: GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, it was a planned play on both sides of the ball. Strahan is lined up left and the blocker (88) let’s him go free and Farve rolled right with no other blockers then sits on his ass. It was planned. You can watch it on YouTube. Even Bob Papa who was announcing the game immediately called it a planned sack, “It almost looked like it was a designed play…They’re buddies…You’ve got to be kidding”. That sack record will always have an asterisk next to it until it is broken. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_C2W62HNNsc

  6. “Wow, Meerkat, off the meds today? Lighten up.”, You’re an idiot. No meds just common sense onlike you. You accused me of lying about the event. I did not. I told the the truth. You lied. And I proved it with video evidence. Get off YOUR meds, idiot.
