Woke Folk such as cosmetics billionaire William P. Lauder just don’t seem to get it: you can easily demolish the mansion of a much beloved and still sadly missed folk hero—but can NEVER demolish memories of the hero who lived there.
“After paying $155 million in March for the Palm Beach, Florida, oceanfront estate of the late conservative firebrand Rush Limbaugh, cosmetics billionaire William P. Lauder is tearing it down.”
Why pay $155 million for a mansion that you intend to tear down?

This is done quite frequently in the areas that the well off live around here. Within the past month or so I saw, on Nextdoor, a woman promoting a one day sale of the entire contents of their home. The reason being that they intended to tear it down and build the home they wanted on the property which was on a canal with the ocean in sight.
I went to the county site where I could look up the sales history and they had recently purchased the home for $2.1 million. I’d say that it’s a good guess that they bought it furnished from the children of the owner(s). Typically, the adult children with homes and families of their own live out of state and sell the house turnkey after mom and dad are both gone.
It’s fairly common for people to buy two homes side by side, tear them both down and build a larger home on the property.
I feel compelled to relate that we’re not even remotely close to being in the economic class to do things such as I outlined above. In fact, after moving here in 2017 from Michigan I’m wondering if we’re going to be able to stay. What with hurricane Irma in 2017 and hurricane Ian last year, our homeowners insurance has tripled. Our car insurance has doubled, the utilities are going up and our PINO has got all of us paying more for everything.
Ocean front property is limited. When people have the mega-bucks to do so, they can tear down a home and build what they want. I don’t see this as some kind of sleight against Rush at all but if the media is touting it as such, I’m not even remotely surprised.
Sad but that’s what you get with property rights.
Your neighbors may do something you don’t like but you may do things to your property they don’t like.
If someone bought the building Rush lived in in NYC no one would notice.
The estate was only where Rush lived, not what he was.
And now Kathryn is wealthier.

Well, he’s an American, exercising his American God given rights of private property rights. Ruah no longer lives there, his wife no longer lives there, it’s a meaningless mass of concrete, wood and glass. I guess the new owner knows the ropes about the outside lights and turtles. Rush is living is a far better mansion.
And the world turns… it’s not as though his home was a shrine or something. As said above, it’s mere material.

The mansion wasn’t what enlightened or encouraged me.
The giant of a man whose wit and wisdom made rough times a little easier, is what will be remembered.
