Ritz cracker products have been recalled across the U.S. due to salmonella concerns.
Mondelēz Global LLC, the maker of Ritz products, announced Saturday that Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits are under voluntary recall because the whey powder supplier used to make the snacks is concerned about the “potential presence of Salmonella.”

Last time I looked, crackers were baked in an oven. Heat kills salmonella.

Sufficient baking wil kill salmonella. But if heat is applied merely for drying (desiccation) and texture, or minimized to save fuel costs, the salmonella can remain viable, though dormant, for years.
Most of their products are now made in mexico, and their problems could possibly be related to pesticides or other similar issues, with this recall being a cover for that.
Read the label- if it says ‘made in mexico,’ think about passing on it. They laid off numerous American workers when they moved their plants to mexico, where they pay 2 to 7 dollars an hour, versus 26 dollars for their American workers.There is an active boycott of many years on their products for that reason.

Despite the foreign looking name of Ritz’s owner, the firm’s HQ is in Deerfield, IL (outside Chicago). The parent firm Modelez International can trace its founding back to the 1930s and is basically a spin-off of 1/2 of the old Kraft Foods.
