San Fran Sanitizes Crime Lingo So Criminality Doesn’t Sound So Bad

Crime-ridden San Francisco has introduced new sanitized language for criminals, getting rid of words such as “offender” and “addict” while changing “convicted felon” to “justice-involved person.”

The Board of Supervisors adopted the changes last month even as the city reels from one of the highest crime rates in the country and staggering inequality exemplified by pervasive homelessness alongside Silicon Valley wealth.

The local officials say the new language will help change people’s views about those who commit crimes.

convicted felon – returning resident

juvenile delinquent – young person impacted by the juvenile justice system

drug addicts – a person with a history of substance use

The newspaper noted an individual whose car has been broken into could well be known to police as “a person who has come in contact with a returning resident who was involved with the justice system and who is currently under supervision with a history of substance use.”

Peeping Tom – Unauthorized Visual Inspection

Armed Robbery – Emphatic Persuasion of Wealth Transfer

  1. Control the language and you control the discussion.

Control the discussion and you control the thinking.

Control the thinking and you control the people.

    It’s that simple.

  2. Oh this shit started years ago when they got rid of actual food stamps claiming it caused stigma at the grocery store. They replaced it with a debit card with pictures of veggies on it so people wouldn’t know that welfare is your “career choice” and not just a temporary misfortune.

Rat problem? Whoa, hate speech! Free range rodentia. isn’t that “nicer”? ‘scuse me while I puke.

  3. They’ve been using those terms for years in Atlanta. CA is usually on the cutting edge with this crap.

I just heard on the news that a Georgia Tech student was robbed by two young guys on electric scooters at 5:30 AM. They scooted away safely so these “youthful offenders” are not “justice-involved” yet. At least for this crime. Mayor Bottoms, I thought you put a curfew on those e-scooters.

  4. Also, in Atlanta the “justice involved” don’t get public defenders anymore. They avail themselves of “Pre-trial services” at the “Pre-trial detention center, which you’d better not refer to as a jail.

  5. This is stupid, using a sentence in place of a word or two.

When the sentence fails to comfort the goofs, they’ll need a fucking paragraph to describe a sex offender!

    Who thinks this shit up?

  7. So when a California resident with a ‘History of contact with the justice system”, wants to buy a firearm, he can now answer “no” on the form 4473 line that asks if he is a convicted felon. Great!
