Seattle-area blood banks can’t keep up with demand amid increased shootings

PM

Violent crime has gotten so bad in Washington that a blood bank is begging for donors.

Dr. Kirsten Alcorn, Co-Chief Medical Officer at Bloodworks Northwest told KOMO News, “An increase in gunshot wounds, which is really sad to say, but we are definitely seeing it.”

She added that one gunshot victim in the last few weeks needed 50 units of blood to stay alive.

After being shot in the line of duty in March, King County Sheriff’s Office Detective Dave Easterly told the outlet, “I thought I was gonna die, I really did. I was going in and out.”

Easterly underwent at least four surgeries in the following weeks and added, “Most of the blood that flows through me right now doesn’t even belong to me. It belongs to the people who were generous enough, brave enough to give me that blood.”

The blood bank said that it requires at least 1,000 donors a day to keep enough blood products stocked for any emergency that might occur. more

  1. If they want more blood they should pay donors half of what they charge their insurance companies.
BTW, saline solution is sold to the hospital for two bucks a bag and they bill your insurance company about a $700. Not sure how much blood is a unit but it would seem like that it would be more?

  2. taxpayer-funded belts should allow the participants to use a 2-handed grip, instead of having to hold up their saggy-pants with 1 hand & shoot with the other

  3. I went to WSeattle today.
The amount of graffiti along i5/i90 is depressing. The traffic congestion is maddening. No homeless dashing across the on ramp this time-but there was an array of shopping carts along the berm. The woods by i5/i90 is just a trashy blue tap village for as far as you can see. People roaming about.

Yeah, let’s keep voting for more of this.

  4. You can keep your vaxxed blood. As SNS noted, I like my heart and liver just the way they are. I’ve told my gal just let me bleed out, I definitely do not want to go to a hospital. My daughter checked in for a sore shoulder/slight temp check out, caught a flesh eating virus was dead the next day.

It’s been a great ride, I won’t spend my remaining time worrying about that crap in my body.
