Seattle City Council Votes to Lay Off 100 Police Officers

WFB:

The Seattle City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday in support of police budget proposals that would lay off 100 police officers, despite objections from the city’s mayor and police chief.

The city council began to reexamine the police department’s budget earlier this summer in response to anti-police protests. Mayor Jenny Durkan (D.) and police chief Carmen Best criticized the most recent set of proposals, which would also end the removal of homeless people from the city’s streets and cut salaries for police leadership.

Durkan said the cuts would hit the “most diverse class” of officers the city has ever had, as police union rules mandate that layoffs are determined by seniority. more here

  1. Want to bet the next union contract will abrogate seniority and substitute ‘diversity’ for layoffs and promotions?

Just shut-up and accept all of it: masks, social distancing, violent crime, open revolt. It’s the ‘new normal;’ suck it up, h8trs!

  2. Chief of Police should reduce availability of police response in the wealthy residential areas of the city. Those are the lowest crime areas anyway. Better use of the more limited resources they have to work with.

And no more responding to burglar and fire alarms in those areas either. That’s just ‘property’, like they have said before.

  3. I bet they will lose more than 100 police officers once the layoffs begin. I can’t imagine why someone would want to serve as an officer when the city elite hate your guts. I would bet that soon there will basically be no official police, but there will be a bunch of private security companies.

    Just don’t!

As a wise man once said:
“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness.”

  5. Durkan started this whole mess now she seen the City Council Mob taking over and is desperate to stop it. Her legacy may well be the Mayor who destroyed Seattle. MicroSoft, Boeing and any other mid to large corporation is watching this very closely and it wouldn’t take long to get the moving trucks lines up.

  6. They also cut Chief Best’s salary by 100k. Her lawyer was on KTTH yesterday. She didn’t know it was going to happen, it wasn’t on the Seattle City Councils’ docket that day. Boom! We’ve cut your salary too.

She has a contract and is taking legal action. The city council cut a black woman’s salary to less than all of her white predecessors. Hypocrites?!?

    This city…🤦🏼‍♀️

  7. Damn near impossible to find a person with skills and aptitude who’d apply for a Law Enforcement Job in Seattle. They’re soon going to regret giving up a most valuable tool. Look for many experienced cops to leave as well. Seattle PD won’t be able to find anyone stupid enough to apply for their vacancies. Only the desperate, unqualified, zero potential, politically correct, affirmative action types will apply. Good luck with that Seattle.

  8. “Hi, I’m Carmen Best, former police chief of Seattle, Washington. I’m here to apply for the job of Police Chief of Springfield. Here is my résumé.”

“Well, Ms. Best, thank you for your application! We’ll be in touch. Have a lovely day!”

  9. OH boy. We’ll get to to watch – Be careful what you wish for – play out on leaked videos confirming the consequences, and the pain from wishing for the wrong thing

And they’re proven real-slow learners. They’ll make a lot more wishes before the pain reaches a high enough level to make them think about what to wish for next.
