Seattle mayor to cut police department budget 18% after City Council approval

Just The News:

Seattle officials are cutting the police department’s 2021 budget by 18%, after a summer of protests and riots against the police in many U.S. cities after the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.

The City Council on Monday approved an 18% cut to the city’s police department funding, in an 8-1 vote. The one council member who voted against the budget was fighting for a 50% cut.

The office of Mayor Jenny A. Durkan has released a  statement  in support of the proposed budget, saying she will sign the budget next week. more

  1. Is this the same idiot who told the people to call the police if they see mask or lockdown violations?

Who’da thought we could actually sink to this level of idiocy?

Get used to it, the decline continues….

  2. Living without skin in the game makes decisions like these very easy. Voting for these fools or traitors is easy if virtue signaling is preeminent in one’s thinking. Welcome to lefty land.

  3. Leftists can’t self moderate. They will push beyond the limits over and over until they push too far. When the people have had enough, they will stop them. Where I live, we aren’t having these kinds of issues because everyone knows what will happen if that limit is reached. No local or state official here would dare tell the people how many persons they can have in their homes for Thanksgiving Day or any other day. Like they say, that dog don’t hunt!

  4. My favorite get away spot for many years. Such a pretty city with too much to eat and do. Turned into a shithole. The sane people were outvoted and this is what they got.

Police are leaving in droves anyway. And who can blame them?

  5. Was in Seattle years ago. Beautiful location, but already rough around the edges and dingy. But oh so progressive. Not going back. Ever. Same with San Francisco. Had visited many times, but when I went there in 2015 it was a dirty, dangerous dump. Hard to enjoy natural beauty while stepping over excrement and needles. Will not return. What these dem mayors have done to these beautiful places is criminal.
