Seattle To Open The Other Kind of “Shooting Gallery” – IOTW Report

Seattle To Open The Other Kind of “Shooting Gallery”

In a head long rush to repeat Switzerland’s mistakes, the city of Seattle and the surrounding King County have announced their intention to open “safe spaces” for heroin addicts to shoot up.   They are currently searching for the best location for separate “injection site”(s)  in the county and city.  Once opened, the city will have the distinction of being first in the nation to have its very own needle park.

Here

Dollars to donuts neither will be located within 10 blocks of the homes of any of the politicians who back this plan.

  1. Progressives frequently wonder (I am assuming for the sake of argument that progressives bother to think or wonder at all) why much of America dislikes them. It is because they take public positions contrary to common sense.

Should we criminalize drug users or not? This is a valid question, but why enact laws making it easier to abuse drugs by establishing so-called safe zones? This isn’t tolerance – it’s stupidity. Drug abuse is neither good for society or the individual, and the answer is not to make it easier to abuse drugs. But progressives have no common sense when it somes to these issues.

Ironically, the totalitarian government model that progessives work toward is generally extremely intolerant toward drug use. But asking progressives to think of the consequences of their actions is another exercise in futility.

  2. We all know the purpose of this is to prevent blood borne disease, HIV, hepatitis, viral hemorrhagic fever (ew).

On the other hand, non-addicts pass on these diseases in other ways, sex for example. Pregnant women pass all of the above diseases to their babies inutero plus: Herpes, Genital warts, chlamydia, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis.

It seems to me disease detection and treatment should be part of the safe shooting galleries. But, what to do if addicts including pregnant addicts refuse detection and treatment? Then there’s the idea of treatment for drug addiction. Who has the answer? They cannot be forced to comply.

  3. Okay, understand this plan will cost at least $1.7 million and Seattle is not getting any input from the DEA (they cite marijuana is not legal under federal government – why not add heroin in the mix). Oh yeah, they say they must do this to prevent people shooting up heroin and dumping their dirty needles around in public places. I am so happy to hear that heroin addicts are so concerned about the public that they will go to these safe places to shoot up just so they can dump the dirty needles in an approved disposal container.
Seattle is already going to lose funding for being a sanctuary city let’s see how far they can push the federal government with this fine idea!

  4. Man, I feel for the good folks of Seattle. Oh, sure, they’re the minority but they are not happy with what’s going on around them. Amsterdam made the same mistake. The Dutch were all of a sudden buried by the dregs of society who migrated from all over Europe. Seattle libs could not learn from someone else’s mistake?

  5. What. The. Hell.
So, it’s okay then, to open up self-poisoning centers? ‘Come on down and inject yourself with lethal life destroying drugs!’ Wow, so accepting! (How depraved can one city get?)

  6. Seattle.
The BEST city ever for you to
    leave.
It was a shithole 15 years ago, I
couldn’t imagine now. Getting off the
ferry to go to the asian district you had
to walk all of the sidewalks with drunks
homeless, druggies, pan handlers and it
all smelled like piss and shit. We just
    gave up going.

An earthquake cannot come soon enough
    to the shitty city.
