  1. My wife had a masectomy to get ahead of breast cancer.

My mother-in-law survived breast cancer 28 years ago, only to have it come back bigger and badder this year. Tomorrow, her daughter and I take this 83 yo diabetic woman to the hospital to have a masectomy of her own.

Please pray for her, Loris is close enough that God will know who you mean.

I know little of Ms. Doherty beyond her existing as a character in 90210 while teen me lusted after the blonde actress instead, but whatever her strengths and weaknesses in life, she didnt deserve cancer.

    No one does.

God bless her for not surrendering to it until it overwhelmed her.

And may the Lord bless and comfort those who loved her, and for those women who are fans of hers to learn from her loss and monitor their own breast health as well, it just may save their life.

Having been there done that before and going to do it again tomorrow, I will tell you ladies that while I very much did not like sitting in a waiting room for hours in worry and prayer, jumping every time the voulenteer’s phone rang, I consider it a good deal LESS pleasant shaking hands with people over a coffin as one after another says at least she isnt suffering now.

    Check your breasts, ladies.

The quicker you catch this the better your outcome can be.

  2. “only to have it come back bigger and badder”

In my pre-hospice days I worked on oncology. it’s actually where I first met hospice. It took me a minute to realize there are forms of cancer that if you have the audacity to fight it, it comes back educated and with a vengeance. It comes back like it’s PERSONAL.

I felt helpless to the effort of killing people 2/3 of the way to try to save their lives.

By the way, I am so very blessed to share my news with all of you. Some of you may recall I’ve been at the VA nursing home for the past year, my corporate hospice turned toxic in a buyout.

I am back home in hospice again as of this week. Smaller privately owned company. It is so good to be back I don’t have the words.

…good for you getting to do what you love, and God bless you that you can do it.

    I couldnt.

    But someone needs to.

My mother died attended by a hospice nurse until the end when they went to 24 hour watch.

She was far more of a comfort than the priest we tried to contact later.

She passed officially as I and my niece hit the parking lot, having been told to get there quickly some minutes before. She was still warm when we got there, under other circumstances I would have started compressions she was so close.

    But she was gone.

And I thank God she wasnt alone when she went, thanks to the hospice nurse.

Ive had issues with corporate hospice in other settings and circumstances, aint gonna lie.

But it needs done, and I salute those of you that do it well, and thank you HHNN for that, Im sure your patients families are grateful.

  4. SNS I am sorry for the loss of your mother and for your not being present when she passed. I very much look forward to the day when we are all reunited without all of our physical burdens. What a party that will be!!!
