Sheriff In Cali, By Law, Cannot Tell ICE About an Illegal’s Release Date, So She Does an End-Around

UPI-

Orange County, Calif. Sheriff Sandra Hutchens can’t give information about inmate’s release dates directly to ICE because of a state “sanctuary” law, so she says she’ll give it to the public instead.

Hutchens announced on Monday she will put all county jail inmates’ release dates online to get around SB 54, a law that took effect on Jan. 1 and now prohibits local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with immigration authorities.

“The legislation specifically prohibited local law enforcement’s communication with Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the release of certain undocumented offenders,” the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. “This provision of the law increases the likelihood of dangerous offenders being released back into the community. The law, however, does not limit information that is available to the public.”

Instead of refusing to give information about release dates to ICE, the OCSD said it will put that information on the existing “Who’s in Jail” portion of its website.

  1. prepare yourself for a fast-track rewriting of the law in 3….2….1…. Calilib ‘lawmakers’ will not allow this to stand.

If more local council members grow stones like those in Los Alamitos how long before we have a California civil war between patriots like Bad_Brad and the Jerry Brown libtards?

did immigration law stop the illegal from entering this country ?

do laws against murder stop people from murdering ?

do strict registration and licensing of hand guns stop illegal hand gun ownership and murders ?

did current gun trafficking laws stop holder and obama from trafficking guns to mexican drug cartels ?

so this one law is so all powerful that no one can violate it, even for public safety ?

please help me to understand this.

DOJ appeal is pending before SCOTUS. They’ll most likely rule in June, if not the April session (timely before ’18 midterms). CA/HI/MD/NY have tied themselves in knots and spent considerable resources implementing unconstitutional laws. Now the citizenship q on 2020 Census is the latest lawsuit. They’re past due a smackdown.

  4. @bill: while I would agree with you, Hutchens is a political figure and could theoretically be removed for intentionally violating the law. (There is a pause here while you laugh). Her stance is at odds with much of SoCal politicians and the dunderheads in Sacramento, so if she can accomplish cooperation with ICE without violating California law, then good on her. Hutchens has been sheriff for about 10 years, and may still have another term if she wants it.

  5. Dumps of raw information? TO THE PUBLIC!?

Why! Why! That’s leaking! That’s TREASON! NO GOOD CAN COME OF THIS!

(And, it undermines the salary negotiating position of, oh so many, journalists, still With Her, waiting for the Slosh to rise again!)

  6. What is the people’s release date, from Moonbeam & Company? I think they’d be VERY interested to know when THEY’LL stop being held hostage, by the insane clown posse! 😮

  7. Typical Dem thinking, not realizing people will always look for loopholes. Citizens of the USSR and Eastern Bloc countries were very adapt at finding loopholes and other ways around stifling Communist “laws”.

In SoCal the majority think criminal aliens are criminals. In the big cities (LA, Long Beach, Santa Ana…) it is the other way around.
I have dozens of relatives in NoCal so I spend about 8 weeks a year in and around Frisco. A very large minority think they are criminals. But, in Frisco, virtually everyone I talked with thinks America is bad so the criminals are good SJW!

  9. I think it would be fun to flood California with Conservatives before the midterms and again before the general election. I would be happy to take one for temporary residence to get rid of the communists. You are legal to vote here if you are a US Citizen, at least 18 years of age and are not currently in prison or on parole for a felony. Let’s get rid of the anti Americans in this state and never let this happen again.
