Site Notes – IOTW Report

Site Notes

Good News- We have conquered the spam. I can’t say much more because the spammers use any info they can get against us.

Bad News- The new filter is triggering a response I hadn’t anticipated; it sends some people an email asking them to register. We don’t require that we never have. The email can be ignored.

UPDATE: the tweaks I made to stop registration form alerts has allowed spammers back in. I want to kill someone.

I’ve made an adjustment and the filter will calm down. The company’s name in the email is one we haven’t been associated with for at least three years, maybe more. So, this was very odd.

By the way, this is why I think spammers should receive the death penalty. What right do they have to screw up my business and make your experience a shitty one?

There are articles published that give spammers techniques to thwart any efforts to stop them. How is that legal?

Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience. This has been a harrowing experience, and I am sad to report that some longtime readers lost their cool and had no patience with us. They acted as if we weren’t working on this 24/7, pulling our hair out, and found the presence of a comment that touted high-paying home jobs just too much to tolerate, or their comment that had links in it, for a time, had to be approved by us. It’s disappointing, that some cannot see the amount of work it takes to do this, and the pain it causes when the phuckheads of the world are hellbent on messing with us.

  1. Thanks Fur. I knew that the spammers bugged you more than it did us. Now if you could just fix the half-dozen phone calls I get every day from “the warranty department” that would be great.

  2. “That’s why I say we have no hope for change except by force. This country has been taken over by corrupt politicians for over 45 years. Everyone one that in government from the past 45 years has baggage. They all need to be put on trial and investigated.i do home work…”

Just kidding. Thanks for all you do.

  3. Thanks for the hard work BFH. The spamming seemed to peak in the couple of weeks that you were dragging yer dobber around in the dirt, and improved when you clocked back in. To your health sir.

  4. I just ignored the chaff, but it is nice to see it gone!
I really can’t imagine who here was clicking on it, so their motivation must have been for pure harassment… (can yew say democRATz?)
Thanks for all the hard work!

  5. Thank you all for the work you put into this website. I know it can’t be easy. I know nothing about building and maintaining a website but I got a glimpse of what is involved when I watched my computer programmer daughter-in-law typing a screen full of gibberish and getting paid handsomely for it.

  6. Several times I’ve had a warning in solid red background that this site was unsafe and that Microsoft recommends I don’t continue, blah, blah.

    Hopefully it’s been cleaned up.

  7. first time the register thing popped up i just went along, the second time i was somewhat upset, the third time i realized it was a glitch and moved on. No big deal. I’m sure running this isnt easy but i’m no IT guy.

  8. Thanks for the clean up on aisle IOTW!

And, please don’t block Larry. He’s a (supposed) liberal who says the quiet part out loud. He’s prepping us for the conversations with our idiot nephews.

  9. “Cmn¢¢guy: I’m pretty sure Larry is one of us, playing devil’s advocate for comedy value. And no, he’s not me.”

I’ve always got the impression the poster was a regular but “Larry” was an alter ego saying crap to be funny. Cracked me up on several occasions. BTW, is Billy Fuster still around…hope he’s okay.

  10. Mr. Hat, this is one of the few instances where gov’t intervention could be useful, as with Trash Calls over the telephone – the gov’t could require that spammers and Trash Callers pay for whoever’s equipment they’re violating – the rate determined by the one being violated.

Quick, easy, and thorough. Course, it’ll never be done because it helps America and there’s no kickback to the pols.

And – you are doing an outstanding job – not just with the iOTWReport – but with keeping your sanity in the process!

  11. Sorry, Fur

I swear I only made one mention of it. The latest one was particularly bothersome because it was suggesting violence and sometimes got several thumbs ups

  12. From someone who is now seeing some “conservative” news sources censoring comments section. I really appreciate what you do, going out of your way not to do that, and to make things convenient for the rest of us, in addition to the awesome news aggregation and opinion service. God bless.
    Thanks.

  13. Thank you, Fur. I understand the pain in the ass that comes with maintaining a good site and a good community. Hard decisions have to be made knowing full well there’s going to be some blowback. Afterall, it’s your sandbox; you just let us play in it. Cheers! 😎👍

  14. It pretty much sucks running a blog. I used to. It wasn’t monetized and consequently it became more trouble than it was worth.

I appreciate that you guys soldier on.

Oh. by the way. Did I tell you that I made one dollar as a sex worker? It took all day but I feel everyone got their money’s worth.

  15. Great job Fur. Thanks for all your effort, and the others that help as well. I had no problem scrolling past the crap, but like the crap free place this is now. 👍
