Ski Lift Goes Out of Control

I’ve never seen anything like this before.

Was the operator asleep at the switch, leaning on it?

  1. On a lighter note, I learned to ski in the Sierra’s while still a pup. What are all these euro-weenies doing with helmets? They will never make it past their first encounter with a pine tree up close and personal (usually doing something really stupid).

  2. First problem, they don’t speak American so how can the read the instructions?
Second Disneyland banned dayglow tourist uniforms 5 years ago so they shouldn’t have been let on the teacup ride in the first place.

  3. Why were there about 100 people standing around doing nothing when this video began? Seems like there was a problem preventing all these people from getting on the lift before it went out of control. The kid(?) in orange jump suit that was knocked off in the very beginning laid motionless thru the whole thing.

  4. The motor was likely controlled by a variable frequency drive.
A VFD can control the speed and direction of the motor.
They can be programmed to lock out the reverse feature and for a maximum speed.
They may use the reverse feature on some occasions but what may have happened was a factory default may have been deployed in the VFD.

In addition, there should be an Emergency Shutdown safety relay employed.
ESD stations should be available throughout.
