Futurism
If you’ve spent any time around kids lately, you’ve probably heard about “brain rot.” Named Oxford Word of the Year in 2024, it’s defined as the “supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material (now particularly online content) considered to be trivial or unchallenging.”
As it turns out, it’s not just human minds getting rotted by low-effort memes like “6-7” and “skibidi toilet“: in new research, a team from Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Purdue University found that “continual exposure to junk web text induces lasting cognitive decline in large language models (LLMs).” More
Actually, people get brain rot watching legacy media and the Democrats in government.
Don’t argue with me. You know I’m right. Just see the idiot in the post below about the No Kings protest.
What should we return to, books and newspapers that are edited and published by a select few?, No, I like the fact that the internet has opened up our dialogue to the common man. We just need to be smart about what we believe.

You don’t maf, much, do ya?
Although sometimes buried in distressingly large piles of crap, there is much of non-brain-rotting value published on substack.
Brain rot has been around for a long time. Tokyo Rose, Joseph Goebbels, Mildred Gillars, Rita Luisa Zucca, Frederick W. Kaltenbach, Trinh Thi Ngo and more recently Baghdad Bob. Yet they’re still there only more polished on CNNMSNBCABCNBCCBS and everyone’s favorite: PBS.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannd that’s why they don’t teach this in History class!
oh and AI… well it’s even more insidious because it is the propaganda you don’t notice!
I believe that internet on line time is a major factor in brain rheumatism that is affecting…. what was I saying??
Well now, to Jason’s point.
“just need to be smart about what we believe.”
One of the unexpected benefits of the cell phone curse. Young people are not watching or believing legacy news. They tune into pod casts like Joe Rogan. And that’s precisely why you see a majority of young people moving conservative. Just sayen. I know, I talk to them.
For heaven’s sake let’s not forget the NY Times, WaPo, LA Times, Glamour, Time, People, Sports Illustrated, National Geographic, Scientific American, Marie Claire, and the rest of that brain-rotting crap.

They were training A.I. by making deals with sites like Reddit to allow the ‘bots to scrape their forums. And if you use the delusional ravings of gay communist morons to train your A.I., you can hardly be surprised when it turns out to be just as insane itself.
