Someone said Vernors Was the Best Ginger Ale??

I do read comments, and I do retain.. lol.

So, when I was in a store I figured I would try it.

HERESY!!!! No way. I disagree. There was nothing “gingery” about it and to me tasted like cotton candy.

If you’re going to do ginger ale, do ginger.

Currently, my favorite is Canada Dry Bold.

But, also, I am one of the few people I know who likes Tamarind soda. So, take what I say with a grain of salt.

  2. Huh. I also heard that Vernors was the best ginger ale. From what I remember, there’s no ginger in it… It sucks.

    Bundaberg (Australia) is the best readily available ginger ‘beer’ in my point of view. Jones ginger ale is quite good as well.

    However, I like ‘hammer’ ginger flavor and make my own ginger frozen custard and egg nog (frozen custard’s base is egg nog, for the most part) I use ginger root – frozen so it grates easily.

  3. For those of us that grew up in the Detroit area, Vernors was IT. Later in life, I discovered Canada Dry GA and never went back to Vernors. Today I learned that CD has a bold version. Might have to give that a try if I can find it in a smaller bottle or can and not that large size.

    What does Tamarind taste like? I knew not of the Jarritos brand until we moved to SW Florida.

  6. I grew up on Vernors ginger ale and loved it. When I moved from MI I gave up drinking ginger ale altogether. I quit all carbonated beverages a few years ago, but Canada Dry Bold has peaked my interest.

  9. I had Vernors a few times when I was young; my father liked it. The flavor was different but I liked it. I haven’t seen it around these parts in years, I thought they had gone out of business.

    I quit buying soda 12 years ago, but I used to like Polar ginger ale and dry orange. I’ll have a root beer once in a while when I’m out to eat.

  11. I lived in MI and my Dad used to work in Detroit and brought cases of Vernors home onnthe weekends. Hated it! I think cause I always pictured ginger ale to taste like 7 Up and Vernors did not AT ALL!

  12. I’m from northern Michigan and was raised on Vernors. I still like it, but when we left the UP in the late 60s, it was almost impossible to get Vernors outside Michigan. I prefer Canada Dry now.

  13. True Michiganders don’t drink ginger ale ss a beverage, but as a medicinal supplement. Nothing cures an upset tummy quicker. Used it during chemo to chase away the upsets.

  29. Growing up in Michigan, it was always Vernors. When you first open the bottle and raise it for the first sip, DO NOT inhale! You will be coughing for 20 minutes.

    No other ginger ale will be as good for me. Just like Jay’s potato chips are the best.

  31. I remember potato chips in the big steel cans. Probably were Jay’s. My mind either didn’t catalog that or it dropped it to make room for something newer.

  33. Never had a Yuengling till we moved down here. We didn’t have it in Michigan. I’m not a big beer drinker, actually not much of a drinker at all, but I do like Yuengling.

  34. I remember chips in a can, they were called Charles Chips. A small delivery truck would deliver them to you door. And Strohs Beer, didn’t they used to market that in a wide mouth bottle? I can’t drink fast enough out of a regular bottle, gimme one of them wide-necks!

  37. OK, Vernor’s doesn’t even call itself “ginger ale”, It calls itself a “ginger drink”. That said, I look for it especially when returning to Michigan. Can’t get it here. If you want to try an unusual ginger ale, try Ale 8 One out of Winchester, KY. A bit odd, but not bad.

    New Era Potato Chips. They came in a large tin.

    The label read “The Alkaline Food”

    I read that as the Al Kaline food.

    Al Kaline was the Tigers’ power hitter of the time.

  39. I checked the labels on all brands of Ginger Ale sold at my grocery store.
    None listed ginger as an ingredient.

    Except Canada Dry: which contains “less than 2% ginger.”

  42. Wouldn’t know one ginger ale from another.
    Been a decade since I’ve had any.
    My soda libation of choice is glass bottle cane sugar coke. And that only once every other week.

  43. Tamarind Shrimp is a very good entree I used to get at El Torito Grill in these parts. But most of those restaurants are now gone. I could probably make my own.

  44. If you like ginger then the non-alcoholic ginger beer is best, Crabbies. They make the best alcoholic ginger beer as well.

    For gingerale try Bundaberg sold at Cracker Barrel.
