South Korea says leaked US intel document ‘untrue’, amid spying allegations

SEOUL, April 11 (Reuters) – South Korea said on Tuesday that information contained in a purportedly leaked U.S. confidential document that appeared to be based on internal discussions among top South Korean security officials was “untrue” and “altered”.

Several documents have been recently posted on social media offering a partial, month-old snapshot of the war in Ukraine, sparking a diplomatic row between the U.S. and some allies.

One of the documents gave details of internal discussions among South Korean officials about U.S. pressure on Seoul to help supply weapons to Ukraine, suggesting the U.S. could have been spying on South Korea, one of its most important allies, and inviting condemnation from the Asian nation’s lawmakers.

The office of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said in a statement that suspicions his office in Seoul was monitored are “utterly false” and that any attempts to shake its alliance with the U.S. is an act “compromising national interest”.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin held phone talks with his South Korean counterpart on Tuesday during which the two sides agreed that much of the document on South Korea has been fabricated, Yoon’s office said. more

  1. “two sides agreed that much of the document on South Korea has been fabricated”

Release the document and identify what, “if anything”, was altered.
This is NOT the way to treat a trusted ally !

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will meet with Joe Suck Biden at the White House and will determine how incapacitated old Joe truly is.
Joe will attempt to read the teleprompter with a newly altered speech affirming Lloyd Austin’s lie.
Another $Billion dollars will soothe South Korean sensitivity.

  2. China/Xiden Administration are the culprits in this whole “U.S. confidential document” debacle. Doesn’t matter if the “leaked” documents are real or AI’ed. The cause is the same – the compromised, weak national security of the U.S. government.
Both bad actors are involved in sabotaging the United States reputation and relationships with U.S. allies. Mission Accomplished.

  3. “…purportedly leaked U.S. confidential document.”

I suspect “purposely leaked.” One of the docs states that Ukraine will never get back the territory it has lost to Russia.

The leaks are preparing the public to expect the US to step away from helping Ukraine and that its now being considered a lost cause. And it is costing too much to continue, as part of the cost is that a good number of US citizens do not approve of our continuing to support a losing side.

The Gov’t, DoD, Chiefs of Staff, etc., plan it all out. That level of leakage is not done through error.
