Stan Lee, the man who co-created Marvel Comics, has died … Stan’s daughter tells TMZ.We’re told an ambulance rushed to Lee’s Hollywood Hills home early Monday morning and he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. We’re told that’s where he died.Lee had suffered several illnesses over the last year or so — he had a bout of pneumonia and vision issues.Stan started Marvel with Jack Kirby in 1961 with The Fantastic Four. He went on to create Spider-Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man and The Avengers.Stan made cameo appearances in all of the Marvel movies.
Lee had a rocky relationship with Marvel once the company went full-tilt Hollywood. He sued the company in 2002 for royalties he said he was owed for the first “Spider-Man” movie. Three years later he settled the case for $10 million.Lee is survived by his daughter, J.C. His wife of 69 years, also named Joan, died in 2017.J.C. tells TMZ, “My father loved all of his fans. He was the greatest, most decent man.”
Lee was 95.

My interest in comics ran more toward Mad Magazine, and I have little use for Hollywood movies of Marvel Superheroes.
But Stan seemed like a standup guy.

Come on, Boehnerdict. Were it not for Stan’s words of encouragement when I met him at a speaking engagement in 1978, I would not have the career I currently enjoy. Please allow some of us to mourn a man with an imagination that if nothing else, entertained and inspired millions.
Thanks Lowell, I’m a Peter Bagge fan myself, but Mr.Lee led an exemplary life.
We should all be so lucky to have a loving wife and family, rewarding career and admiration of our peers.

I’m not a superhero fan (alright, I was many decades ago), but Mr. Lee seemed to be a decent guy and good father and husband. RIP.
If his real last name was Leiber, I’m wondering if he was related to Jerry Leiber, one of Elvis’s songwriters?

Last I read, like Forrest J. Ackerman, another heavy influence on lots of ’60s children, Lee was an avowed humanist. But both know better now.

Jack the “King” Kirby just welcomed him to comic book heaven if there is such a place of which I doubt unless you’re a total nerd like I used to be. RIP Stan Lee you and Jack Kirby etc. were a large part of my growing up reading comic books in the 60’s. I wish I would’ve kept them though after selling them all in 1990.

He lived a long time, but it’s still horribly sad to see him go.

As much as I liked Jack Kirby’s art DC still had outstanding artists like Carmine Infantino (The Flash and Batman), GiL Kane (Green Lantern), Neal Adams (also green Lantern, Deadman which is my personal favorite as well as some Batman), Murphy Anderson was another great DC illustrator, Wayne Boring was my favorite Superman artist in the 50’s and 60’s with his great lantern jawed Superman and Joe Kubert of Sgt. Rock fame, I loved his illustrations. there were many others, I love the Batmans of the 50’s and 60’s before Carmine Infantino took over. And of course Steve Ditko’s work for Marvel and DC , all great stuff. Not a big Frank Miller fan, he turned Batman too dark

I remember some too-hot-to-do-anything summer days, hanging out in the neighbors garage reading comics as a kid.
I expect Boehnerdict Ryan was heavily into “Anne of Green Gables” or some such stuffed-shirt literature when he was 10.
Growing up, I was always into DC superheroes Superman and Batman.i was into the old Adventures of Superman, memorized opening credits narration, learned to draw the S logo. Was crushed at death of George Reeves.
In movies, Marvel has really tied everything together into their Marvel Universe. DC attempts in movies have sucked, esp. Batman vs. Superman.
