I suppose the 2 whites that were also shot were mingling among the asians, undercover gathering intelligence, in order to launch an attack too. I suppose in these 2 cases the killer was following marching orders from #stopasianhate.
If some vegan decided he that he was going to avenge all of the chickens and cows eaten at fast food joints, and then shot up a McDonald’s, a Burger King, and a KFC, and killed a lot of teenagers in the process, one take would be to say that he was targeting teenagers, when in reality he was simply targeting the people who worked in those places, who tend to be teenagers. Same thing here: this asshole is a self-admitted sex addict and was targeting places of “temptation” (as he put it) — which happened to be staffed mostly with asians. He didn’t target them BECAUSE they were asian, but because he felt that they were tempting him to sin. Still crazy and evil, but not racist.
