Suddenly, Zuckerberg Is All About Free Speech

WSJ

Meta Platforms is ending fact-checking and removing restrictions on speech across Facebook and Instagram, a move Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said was an attempt to restore free expression on its platforms.

“We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms,” Zuckerberg said in a video Tuesday. “More specifically, we’re going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with Community Notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.” More

  1. This is first and foremost a business decision. Although META’s stock price is close to a 52-week high, he is adopting the Michael Jordon principle: “Republicans buy sneakers too.”

This isn’t 2016, most tech titans (Tim Cook, Zuckerberg, Larry Page, Satya Nadella, Marc Benioff) got smart and now understand how dynamic the Trump Train is, and they want to capitalize on it.

  2. I fully support laws against “misinformation” provided that I, personally, get to define what “misinformation” is. Otherwise, “fact checkers” are just assholes with more power than me trying to tell me what to think and shut down my ability to challenge their stupid false narratives.

Good points. Especially the MJ analogy. The thing is I’m of the opinion what swayed these extremely egotistical little men (pricks) wasn’t his resounding election results. Or his common sense business approach. What swayed these little men was him jumping up after getting shot in the ear and yelling “fight, fight, fight”. Reality is a bitch. I dunno. Like I say I don’t trust them. I still consider them an enemy to the Republic.

Yep. They are front runners, they back the horse that’s ahead. And if that faggoty
slick-haired commie bastard who resides in Sacramento, if he ever (God forbid) ever gets his hands on national power, they will all fawn all over him as well.

  5. My brother and I were discussing how Zuckerberg’s changing attitude may be related to him practicing mixed martial arts and spending time in the gym with actual alpha males, instead of being surrounded by a bunch of leftist betas. He may have been sort of red pilled. I don’t know if that’s really the case, but it could be. I’ll give him kudos if it is.

  6. Mr. Liberty has nailed it. It’ll be a lot of fun when Trump gets all his concessions but has to make it clear that he cannot intervene in his DoJ’s pursuit of equal justice under the law. Oh, so sorry.

My above comment was for AA. That comment confuses the hell out of me. But agreeing with Mr. Liberty doesn’t. I’ll take a stab at it. Do you think Trumps falling for this bull shit one bit?

When I was younger I was exposed to “Rich Folk” that wanted to be bad ass. Mind you not nearly as rich as Zuck and company. They would never take that big step out of their comfort zone where mental toughness played a huge part. I never did learn how to knit. But what I’m telling you is the truth.

  9. 2 things:

Zuckerberg is the biggest target for Meta’s role in election interference through their social media platforms. He lied through his teeth to Congress about colluding with the Democrats on campaign contributions, censorship of conservative voices, smearing conservatives, goofing around with so-called “fact checkers” and otherwise doing everything that would usually earn RICO charges. Which brings me to the 2nd thing.

Trump has apparently persuaded Zuckerberg to do the right things but, knowing Trump as we do, he’s not going to go quid pro quo with Zuckerberg if Trump’s DoJ decides they need to revisit Meta’s election interference initiatives.

How’s that. Further, Zuckerberg is fighting the growing problem of FB being seen as a social media dinosaur to younger Americans who are seeking edgier platforms.

If I’m hard to understand, it’s because my understanding of how Trump thinks is becoming increasingly easier. Go figure.

  10. …watching and listening to Trump since the election, and especially since the certification, has been a sheer delight. Not only is he hitting on all cylinders, he is utterly in his natural element of command, and so at ease that he seems to be on a personal “cruise control.” At first I could not put my finger on the central change in his personality, but there it is. He is now unfettered by any anxiety or concern for stepping on oppositional land mines or by having his plans mangled from within. In his past term, he was like an iceberg, in which most of his thinking was below the waterline and we had to guess at what was behind his thinking. No longer. It’s been a lot of fun getting to know how he thinks.

  11. AA – If Trump’s DOJ decide to prosecute Zuck for lying to Congress, all they have to do is play the video of his latest announcement and he’s toast. A first year law student could get a conviction.

If “you” were to get back to your roots, FB wouldnt exist, and My Space would rule the interwebz.
I still don’t trust you and your Evangelical “born again” attitude as far as I could throw you.
Sure, I’ll still use FB, but it will be on my terms, not yours. And we’ll soon be putting that newborn “freedom of speech” policy to the test.

  13. Here’s what I think is happening:
These people are going to Mar-a-Lago and President Trump is showing them the photos and videos he has of them committing heinous crimes. After they change their underwear he tells them to get in line.

  14. @Bad_Brad,

I’ve been shut down on Facebook, Twitter, X, Breitbart, WSJ, and other places for saying things that are obvious but deemed “racist” by the “fact checkers”; so Yes, these oppressive filth do have more power than me to control ideas, discussions, and debates online. And the leftist street thugs will assault you for speaking your mind in public. So, again, they do have more power than me because I don’t plan to be a martyr. I have responsibilities towards others I can’t afford to shirk. So, yes, these filthy motherfuckers do have more power than me.
