Syrian Girl Writes Letter To Trump

(NEWSER) – A 7-year-old Syrian girl whose tweets from Aleppo showcased the horrors of war has appealed to President Trump to “do something for the children of Syria.” Now living in Turkey, Bana Alabed wrote a letter to the new president days before his inauguration, the BBC reports. “Dear Donald Trump,” she writes, “I lived in Syria my whole life (and) … I am part of the Syrian children who suffered from the Syrian war.” Although she is now safe, “millions of Syrian children are not like me,” she writes. “They are suffering. … I know you will be the president of America, so can you please save the children and people of Syria?” Bana’s mother, Fatemah, sent the text to the BBC. (Read the full letter here.)

Bana opted to make her plea in writing after seeing Trump “many times on the TV,” Fatemah says. Like Trump, Bana has a penchant for tweeting—she has 362,000 followers—although hers drove home the terror in besieged Aleppo before her family was evacuated last month as government forces regained control of the city. More than 300,000 people, including 150,000 children, have been killed in the six-year civil war, reports the Guardian. Trump’s position on Syria is not yet known. A White House spokesman said the president would “work with any country” committed to fighting ISIS, per the Guardian. The Pentagon, meanwhile, denied on Monday that US warplanes aided a Russian mission in Syria. Russia supports the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

The Trump Response?

A draft executive order obtained by The Associated Press shows that President Donald Trump intends to stop accepting Syrian refugees and will suspend the United States’ broader refugee program for 120 days.

The president also plans to suspend issuing visas for people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen for at least 30 days, according to the draft. All are predominantly Muslim countries.

Trump is expected to sign the order this week. It is not clear whether the draft will be revised before then.

The actions follow Trump’s orders Wednesday tightening immigration policies, including taking steps toward building a wall on the Mexican border.

President Donald Trump says in a speech at the Department of Homeland Security that his executive actions on immigration show that “beginning today,” the U.S. will get back “control of its border.”

Trump says his administration will be working in partnership in Mexico to improve safety and economic opportunity for both countries and will have “close coordination” with Mexico to address drug smuggling.

Trump says, “We’re going to save lives on both sides of the border.”

The new president spoke shortly after signing executive orders to strengthen border security and crack down on immigrants living in the U.S. illegally.

It will set in motion the construction of his proposed border wall, a key promise from his 2016 campaign.

  1. Sorry kid, America comes first. If you would like Syria to be safe and free, then have your daddy stop hiding in Turkey and tell him to pick up a weapon and FIGHT FOR HIS OWN GODDAMN COUNTRY instead of expecting America to fight for your country.

  2. Tough one. If they’re Christians,(Fatemah?) roll out the welcome mat. If they’re muslims they’re nothing but crime, corruption, welfare, deception, perversion, Satan worship, unreliable, unmotivated, greedy swine, inbred, no chance of improvement. Little muslim kids are just seeds being planted for future Armageddon. What you see them doing to each other today, they’ll be doing to us tomorrow. Deport worthless muslims, import Christians.

  3. These sand box wars make money for some few people. Big money. Federal money. If our involvement were to be lessened, you’ll see their bought and paid for congress critters start to bray, “We have to act!” Wait for it.

  4. Absolutely, allow the kids to immigrate. How about these terms? Bana and any aged 10 and under kids can be adopted by willing, American, Christian families and sent to parochial school through 12th grade – I’m sure the Church would find the money for that and it fits perfectly with their mission. But I wonder how many takers they would actually have. The problem isn’t Bana, it’s her older siblings and parents. And when she’s old (lile 9) she doesn’t get to go back to be sold to an old man for family debts. She stays, gets an education and chooses her future. She is just cattle to them, Islam and the left have absolutely no issue using little girls like property. Islam and the left have a lot in common.

  5. Amazing: I have a severe thunderstorm, and my internet goes out. In Aleppo, she was able to stay online during some of the worse bombing since the London blitz. I don’t know who’s in charge of that kind of service. But American telecommunications needs to find and hire them.

  6. I hate it when they use humans and animals as props. I totally ignore them and their cause. There’s always more to the story. The little girl looks too clean and happy.

  7. Bring the kids over here and adopt them to good, Christian families. Muslims have been doing that to Christian children for nearly a thousand years. And it’s all up-side for her, because now she can live free, not be killed out of “family honor” and never married off at age 10 to a sixty year old man.

  8. You know darned well that kid did not write that letter to Trump, nor is she the one doing the tweeting. It’s called propaganda. So, to the adult operating that twitter account and doing the letter writing, I say send your letter to Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama. They are responsible for the mess in your country.
