Microsoft rolled out an AI entity on Twitter yesterday, called Tay, and was forced to withdraw it soon after.
Designed to pick up new words and expressions by interacting with people, Tay unfortunately ended up interacting with trolls who turned her into a foul mouth, racist, Holocaust denier.
I’m not sure if this a commentary on the people who use Twitter, Microsoft or the unexpected consequences of turning AI turned loose on mankind.
“Tay” is Taylor Swift’s well-known nickname. I imagine she’d be happy that M/S took the action it did.
The Artificial Intelligence always gets a little chippy just before it takes over SkyNet and fries the humans.
Actually, the entity known here as “Loco Blanco Saltine” sounds suspiciously like A. I. after reading that article.

But they really got worried when it started speaking with a thick Austrian accent.
After it passed the Turing Test, it claimed to be Schrödinger’s cat and started singing “Daisy”.
Fearing they had violated Googles patents on doomsday machines they quickly shut it down.
