LOS FRESNOS, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The owners of Abby’s Bakery in Los Fresnos, Texas have been charged with harboring people illegally present in the U.S. and aiding and abetting the harboring, according to a criminal complaint.
Leonardo Baez and Nora Alicia Avila-Guel identified themselves to authorities as the owners of Abby’s Bakery and were charged after eight people present in the country illegally were found at their business on Feb. 12. more here

Geoff C. and I had lunch today at Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Fish & chips place. Everyone working there, with the exception of the guy who looked like the owner, and one cashier, are Mexican. The main cook only spoke Spanish. My hunch is all of the workers are illegals. It’s like this all over Seattle. Everywhere you shop/eat/etc. are Mexican or from some other South American country. We also have a very large African population (who have very limited English language skills).
I believe that if someone is here illegally, they need to be deported. But, when you see these people working hard and trying to create a new life for themselves, it’s also very hard to not see their humanity and feel great empathy for how it would feel if it was oneself in the same situation. I get it. No one said it would be easy.
The nasty criminals, I have no such feelings of compassion or empathy for.
In the case of this bakery, I think I blame the owner more than the illegals. If business owners weren’t exploiting illegals’ cheap labor, we wouldn’t have nearly as many illegals in our country.
This will never end until the business owners who knowingly hire these illegals are given 30 days in jail and a $100k fine for each and every illegal hire. E-Verify would work if they used it….I had my SS# used by an illegal in South Carolina for three years around 2001….It cost me $11K to straighten it all out….FUCK THIS SHIT….The IRS was too stupid to figure it out, but the SSA recognized it right away/ $ 6 BILLION dollars a year went into their “special” fund…..That’s why DOGE should sit on the SSA until the talk…
