Would probably work in most of the state, but did he try it in Austin?

I’m in the final stages of selling the home that was my parent’s. It’s fifteen heavily wooded acres in the country. The young couple who are buying it are from California. He is an Army veteran from Stockton. His old Army buddy lives across the road. After leaving the Army, he and his wife moved back to California. They soon realized it was not where they wanted to raise their kids because of what California has become. His buddy encouraged them to move to Texas and they did. They say they love it here. I wish them well.

He sounds like an asshole.

A Texas Sheriff pulls you over for a traffic violation? I don’t think the boy has spent much time here.

My sister and her military husband (lazy ass), sold their house and hightailed it to Texas. Everyday in emails, she tells me she thinks she still lives in California. TX, TN, Fl, is where Californians flocked to. Wherever you go there you are. 500,000 new residents showed up in Florida from 1/2022 to present. Come on in, the water is fine! I’m reading that people didn’t have flood insurance because “it never flooded there.” Now they don’t have a pot to piss in. Try to do the right thing and it bites you in the butt.

P.S. Human nature does not change. People are the same no matter where you go, and politics change every 4 years.

My impression is that to get pulled over in Texas you either have to 1) do something very egregious or 2) be someone the police want to talk to for some reason in which case they make something up.

SH/sq. in. (Shitheads per square inch)
Factor this when contemplating a move.
Do not increase the ratio when you arrive at your new location.
As a newcomer you should expect some scrutiny, especially in a small town.
Be courteous. Patronize local establishments.
Make friends and develop contacts. Take some time to settle in.
Ditch your red-state license plates ASAP.
(Consider your bumper stickers as well.)
Above all: Don’t be a shithead!

NOTE: If you ARE a shithead, and your new
neighbors are also shitheads; this advice may not apply.
In which case you might as well just stay in your current shithole.
Because we don’t need any more shitheads around here.
