The Allure of Battle

This lecture was posted recently by the U.S. Army Heritage & Education Center or USAHEC at Carlisle Barracks (part of the Army War College). The presenter is Dr. Cathal Nolan from Boston University. The subject is why wars are won and lost. The lecture was given to future leaders in our military. It should be requisite for all members of congress and the administration.

  1. Sparse crowd for this event.

    The allure may last till people are in a big one.

    Honesty up front: I was never in a big one…I was in some firefights in Vietnam, and they were scary enough – and I did not believe in God then, so my fears of getting killed were hard to manage. A soldier needs faith in God to come out of a war mentally unscathed.

  2. I was in the Strategic Air Command. It was our mission to deter nuclear war. The last thing you wanted to see was SAC go to battle. In fact, it would have been the last thing you would have seen.
