This “Beatle’s Re-United” band rumor was at it’s height when I was in high school. I remember it well, except for the music.
I remember “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft,” because, of all bands, The Carpenters redid it and made it a hit.
I’ll have to go and listen to Klaatu and see if it holds up.
People were convinced Klatuu was the Beatles.
I have two of their albums. No turntable, but that’s a different story.

What’s a Carpenters?
They weren’t The Beatles but they weren’t disco either. I’ll give them that.
It was sixty years ago today that J.P. (The Big Bopper) Richardson, Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens died in a plane crash. I went to visit the cemetery today where my parents rest and decided to stop by the Big Bopper’s gravesite since it’s only a couple of hundred yards away. My mom went to school with the Big Bopper and said he made everyone feel like they were his best friend. That’s so rare today.
First time I heard Badfinger on the radio I thought I was listening to a new Beatles song. If I recall correctly, they were the first group signed to Apple Records.
Thanx Hambone! That day did change the world.

if Karen Carpenter had eaten Cass’ Elliot’s ham sandwich, they’d both still be alive.
Wow….. All I can say is I’m so happy to have been part of the punk rock generation that smashed wizard bongs, beatles albums, 17 minute guitar solos and hippy hair.
It had to be done.
I never heard their stuff or anything about the Beatles thing. I saw their albums in the record stores.
Maybe they should have driven it further with a catchy album title.
Beat the Meatles. Maybe.
Why would anyone want to sound like the Beatles those poor hooligans couldn’t sing worth a lick?
My favorite Klaatu song… used to play it for the kids when they were small. They loved it!

“Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft”. I have a recording of that by the Carpenters on Super Audio CD format in 5.1 discreet audio, along with their biggest hits in that format as well,
Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio are the best formats ever available, that unfortunately mostly went away.
Great albums like Hotel California and Rumours were mixed from the original 24 channel tapes.
Too bad that people don’t know what they’re missing with their cheesy mp3 or phone formats, not to mention the crap they listen to anyway.
Meh,
Give me some Tomato-do-Plenty and the Screamers, or some Olympic Sideburns
Long live Rock and Roll!
