Some students at Bowie High School in Prince George’s County may face charges for a senior prank they pulled at the school last week.
About 20 seniors stormed the school’s hallways, taking part in what was meant to look like a school shooting.
The seniors used fireworks and water guns and were wearing black masks, according to a letter from the school.
The school was evacuated.
One student was burned by the fireworks and also treated for an asthma attack.
The father of that student was shocked to learn what had happened.
“I don’t know what had to go through somebody’s mind to pull of a prank like this in this day and age, so close to Parkland and two days later they had a shooting today down in Texas,” said Steve Birckhead, father of the injured student. “These kids just weren’t thinking.”
School officials say the students who participated in the prank will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

I read somewhere that it was called inappropriate. It may well be inappropriate, but it certainly and undeniably is criminal and they should be prosecuted. A five-year old would know better than to pull a stunt like that.
The fact that they had no fear of harm by pulling this stunt shows why gun-free zones do not work. Gun-free zones are an invitation to commit mass murder with little to no opposition.

I agree with Jet Jaguar – they would never have considered it if they knew there were guns anywhere on campus.
For my graduation prank, I’m going to ruin my chances to ever get a decent job for the rest of my natural life. Aren’t I smart?!… Aren’t I cool?!!!

The media should remember this, the next time we’re lectured by teenagers.
Back in 82 some teenagers I knew dressed head to toe in snowmobile suites including helmets with shaded visors, in July (in Minnesota) and went and stood in front of a bank in side a mall. They began to pace back and forth while looking at their watches while holding brief cases.
That was stupid then. This stunt could have ended as a major Darwin/Lemming/Hamas award. They need to be counseled to never reproduce for the betterment of all mankind.
Ha! My hi skool! Back in my day, we thought we were pretty daring to participate in Senior Skip Day but, with 3,000 students, the administration never noticed or were so glad to have a smaller load, nobody got in trouble.
Then, it was just a soulless suburban skool attended by the feckless teenagers of DC commuters; not surprised its students now have stooped to this level of self-absorbed stupidity in an era of instant fame and ultimate nihilism.
Apparently this school hasn’t gotten around to hiring Mental Health School Specialists in place of armed security.
It’s Bowie – a lesser armpit of PG County (and boy, do they hate when you say PG instead of Prince George’s). PG County being a junior armpit to Baltimore city. We’re not talking about a pool of Mensa candidates here.
