Meteorological winter, which runs from December to February, ended this weekend. Not only did it give way to meteorological spring on March 1 in the Northern Hemisphere — it ended the coldest three month period in the United States since the winter of 2013 to 2014.
It was about 1.1 degrees below average as a whole in the contiguous United States, which was home to some of the most unusually cold air on the planet — a part of western Kentucky that was almost 7 degrees colder than average.
Despite the frigid temperatures, 67 percent of the country experienced below-average snowfall. More
Getting old, didn’t miss snow, at all. Cold, was driven off by my Godin coal stove, and long johns. No flowers yet but lots of robins here in cold upstate NY.
Winter here means not having to put up my windshield sunscreen as much.
BTW — I’m still using my “TRUMP 2024 — MAKE LIBERALS CRY AGAIN” sunscreen. Anybody seen a “VANCE 2028 — KEEP LIBERALS CRYING” version yet?
Lack of snow here drove the frost deep, but we’re do for a good dumping on soon. I’m not too upset since we need the moisture even if it’s late. Also, I don’t want to see the fruit trees get ahead of themselves again and lose their buds in a late frost like last year.
My tulips are about an inch or so above the soil and my maple trees have little tiny buds on them. Yay Spring, and it’s nice to have the sun set just after 5:30 in the afternoon now with DST coming this next Sunday 3-9. And baseball season is only 3 and a half weeks away.
It’s pre-spring here in Cleveburg. Winter had it’s cold spells and a bit of snow, but certainly no record setter by any means! frankly I think there is another big snow storm left in the system.
Because of the extreme cold here in MD we had snow still on the ground up until last week (drifts in the shaded areas) left over from the mid January snows. That’s over a month and a half, which is the longest I remember snow lingering on the ground ever.
February of last year we were enjoying temps in the 70’s
This past February, most of the days were well below our typical seasonal temps.
I dream of moving somewhere sunny and warm. I am so tired of 6+ months of grey out of the year.
I love this time of year. The roadkill is finally being exposed, and the pickings are abundant. I especially like the dismembered deer because it cuts down on the butchering. A special bonus comes as a result of being hit numerous times by the snowplows. Lots of venison burger.
I had to wear socks.
The only time of the year I don’t mind having hot flashes.
Also, my Rosemary only grew about an inch. 🤷♀️
I don’t keep track of weather/climate very much but, it seems to have warmed up very comfortably since the dems are out of office.
That’s what they said last year and this summer will be the hottest on record.
“EXTREME WEATHER” is caused by globaloney warming donchaknow…..
The cold just settled here in Central Kentucky. Usually cold spells here are brief with the snow and ice melting quickly. Not so this winter, the frozen stuff lasted a lot longer than the norm.
There are signs of Spring now. Just picked some fresh chives today. Growing well even with night time frost. Delicious.
