The Coming Election Will Decide The Kind Of Nation We Are To Become

Are we going to be a nation of producers or takers? Will we have a society of risk-taking adventurers or content losers? Will it be a country beloved by its citizens, worthy of defending, or a nation overrun and despised by mere inhabitants?

Will the government be rightfully viewed as a potential weapon or will it be realized as that instrument of totalitarianism? Will science be toppled in deference to the views of a political establishment?

Will we be heroes or victims? More

  3. Maybe it’s better to subscribe to the thermodynamic theory of politics: Entropy will most likely increase, regardless. The only question is, does the ‘system’ remain stable, or, does it enter some kind dynamic disequilibrium?

It needs to stay stable enough for normal Americans to function. But I’m not betting on it. The ‘Great Recession’ of 2008-2012 is an example of what it can do. That one fortunately didn’t lead to social breakdown. But the causal factors for a similar event are larger now than in 2008 and the next episode may trigger irreversible change in how we live.

Other than that, I vote for neither ‘heroes’ nor ‘victims.’ I vote for the candidate who possesses values closest to my own.

  4. Jimmy, it wasn’t fortunate that it didn’t lead to societal breakdown. Societal breakdown was exactly would have set the balances straight. The longer we fuck around the harder it gets, exponentially. Had we “bit the bullet” and fired for the brown of them we’d be well on the way by now. At this point we sink further and further into the teeming millions of fence sitters, cunts, and ne’er-do-wells.

  5. I keep reminding myself that there is no precedent in human history (that I know of) for the world’s first true, free republic to fail as we currently are – and recover again. It doesn’t mean it can’t happen, it just means nothing about it is predictable.
