6. History, especially the history of evil, should remain on prominent display so that people can learn from it.

   There is no feeling quiet so eerie as looking into Hitler’s mirror, as I have at the 45th infantry division museum. It’s important to put a “human” face on the most inhuman, lest we forget that while we are all animals, beasts do walk among us.

   It’s more comfortable to think of evil as not human, as not, fundamentally, like us. The movie “Independence Day” was a huge hit, yet the aliens were no more evil than islam. But they weren’t “human”, so it was alright to cheer their annihilation.

   While at the museum a child of about six was literally begging her parents to explain who Hitler was. . . both repeatedly told her, “you’ll learn it in school”. Well, obviously THEY hadn’t.

    btw, anyone watch the Hunting Hitler series on History channel? A former cia agent and author (Bauer i think) did a heckova job proving it wasnt hitler in the bunker. Even Russia admitted after DNA that the only skull they have from the bunker is female. Its a good watch.
