60 years ago, on May 1st 1950, the good people of Mosinee, WI staged a one day communist take over of their town. Complete with arrests, road blocks, removal of books from the local library, a concentration camp and what looks like forced marches of support and propaganda rally, the citizens of this small Midwestern to town got first hand a communist seized their city. Here and Here
Some creepy film footage from the time, no sound track. Watch
Looks like a modern American city except they didn’t beat people then the way they do now..
Somebody havin a problem wif they arithmetic—-1950 is 70 years ago. Ax me how I know
Obama please — you don’t mean to tell me 1956 was 64 years ago, do you?
@Obamaplease
The video was posted on Youtube in 2010, 60 years after 1950.
That one’s on me, but the good people of Mosinee really did stage a coup in their own town.
The Korean war started just a month later. China had been taken by the communist the year before and of course the Soviets were well ensconced in Central and Eastern Europe. This may seem like a lark, but imagine living just 5 years after WWII and watch so many parts of the world fall under communist control. It must have been a time of ill ease.
I’m surprised there wasn’t shooting in the streets by people unaware it was a simulation.
Is it a coincidence that Mosinee is spelled similar to Mosin-Nagant, the famous Soviet military rifle?
When I was in HS (early 70s) we were called to the auditorium for presentation by a (purportedly) Russian guest speaker who expounded on the “Glories of Communism.”
It turned out that his message was ironic- meant quite the opposite, and was delivered as a wake-up call.
And the guy was actually an American using a fake Russian accent!
Most of the students didn’t get it.
Though a few shouted him down, which was the whole point of the presentation.
@Proper Gander:
Catholic high school in the 70s… I’ll never forget the assembly during which they showed us a film of a D&C abortion in full color and detail.
It made up my mind.
