I just recently discovered that my great-great uncle died as a GA soldier in Virginia during the war (measles or typhoid fever apparently, which appears to have claimed close to as many lives as the fighting itself).
One site even had a few letters he sent to his wife during his time in the Confederate army. Some of his sentiments were that his brother (my great great grandfather) take care to see that his cows were fed and seen after well, and that his wife had enough to eat while he was gone to war. Like most of the southerners that fought, he owned no slaves.

I lived in Roswell for eighteen years. Finally got away from Mayor Bicycle Jockey Jere Woods and the Stroup Road Mafia two years ago. Moved to Milton and bought some time. By the time MARTA trains reach Roswell, my kids will be out of school and we will bug out of metro for good. But we’ll stay in the South for sure.

@HippieCritic I really haven’t noticed a big drop off in Roswell like I was hoping for. My grandson went to the local elementary school and he was a distinct minority.
@Thirdtwin Lived in Roswell 19 years. Just moved to Acworth. I don’t know if it’s a lot better, yet, but the schools are waaaay better and there are no bicycle riders!
back in the mid ’70’s, or maybe it was the early ’80’s …. it’s all a blur … down in a dive bar somewhere south of St. Pete’s I met this rummy (I mean that in a good way) who proudly rattled off every Miss America (& it was a very large #)that came from the South …. he started on his hypothesis that the South didn’t lose the Civil War … they just thought the North was coming down after their women … & that’s why the South ‘kicked them Yankee asses’ for the first couple of years … when the South found out Abe Lincoln just “wanted the Blacks (he used a different word), we jus’ said ‘hell, you can have ’em'”
