One of the X comments caught my eye: In order to make the video go viral he failed on purpose but hadn’t counted on getting injured. I don’t know (or care) if that’s what happened but it is sure is believable given the crazy self-destructive stuff people are willing to do for eyeballs and ad revenue.

I’ve seen multiple videos of him executing perfect back flips WHILE catching a fly ball. Either he did that on purpose or maybe he had insufficient traction?

That CNN stage floor he was standing on looked very slick. He’s use to flipping on grass and dirt. It gives him a lot more stability and grip when he lands.
It didn’t seem like he intentionally fell, but he did look a little hungover – possibly high when he tried that stunt at CNN. Success or failure he’s got the views.
