“The Far Side” Online

cnet

The Far Side is now officially online. Anticipated by fans since an announcement in September, Gary Larson’s single-panel comics finally have their very own website, 24 years after ending their newspaper run. The site, run by Andrews McMeel Universal, made its debut Tuesday. It’s also home to merchandise for sale, and it’s even promised that next year it’ll run new work from Larson from time to time. The first classic comic, one from 1995, on the Daily Dose page takes inspiration from The Wizard of Oz: “Why, Gary, you’ve always had the power to go home!” It’s a fitting welcome to Larson and his new home on the web. 1. For many years when a friend of mine was recovering at the Hospital, I brought a Larson comic book…Many times I was told that The Far Side was not something they were familiar with…always I got thanks from people worried about hurting when they laughed, fearing breaking sutures and the people down the hall wanting to know why someone was laughing…a genius..

  3. My favorite Far Side cartoons were the ones I could personally relate to.

Like the group from the migraine sufferers building storming the band institute building next door …

And being interested in Medieval life, I laughed aloud at the cartoon of the enemy crossing the drawbridge and one soldier pointing at the moat, saying, “Oo look, everybody, goldfish!!”

    Gary Larson is terrific!!!

What a great Christmas present, having these online. Now, I will get no work done.
