(NEWSER) – A 23-year-old Phoenix man is in critical condition after shooting himself in the head while trying to show that a handgun could not be fired while he had the safety mechanism engaged. The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office said Christen Reece fired his handgun yesterday while shooting with six other people outside Overgaard in eastern Arizona. Friends took Reece to the local fire department, where he was treated before being airlifted to a Scottsdale hospital for surgery.

Geez. Couldn’t point it at the floor and pull?
If he’d pointed it at he floor he would’ve blown his pecker off. Either way this idiot is a candidate for a Darwin award.
He’d a wound up puttin a hole in his foot doin it too since he wuz steppin on it! Our ancestors woulda let him lay there and walked away declaring him too stupid to save!
This is an example of “What you believe may not be true.”
Just because you believe something is factual, doesn’t necessarily make it a fact.

heh heh heh
This story reminds me of JoeBiden deciding to run for prezdint. why?
LOLOLOLOLOL….
@Tim, yes but what you believe is more important than what you don’t, because people act on what they believe right or wrong, true or lie.
The results may vary.
I feel no compulsion or necessity to argue with Darwin.
Let’s hope he had no children to pass his Stoopid Genes on to, that the gene pool was cleansed even just a little bit from this application of a “chlorine” lead pellet.
Interested in the type of gun, I searched for more.
Apparently there was alcohol involved and he was hemming and hawing about a double safety. I can only assume this means it has a grip and trigger combination like my XDM. It’s pretty cool and all, I’ve never gotten it to fail but never thought of holding it to my head to find out.
In fact, considering carrying that particular gun, it’s kind of intimidating for me. Once you realize there’s one in the tube and the only thing holding it back is by not touching it at all, why carry it around?
saw on Cyanide and Happiness: 5 out of 6 doctors say Russian Roulette is completely safe.
I saw this story on our local news here in AZ.I was hoping that this nitwit was a visitor from NJ.
Oh man, that is so funny…pure genius in action…glad he was paying attention in class when they discussed the conductivity of metal.
The dumbass is strong in this one.
Depends on your holster. I have an XD subcompact and use a Foxx IWB. No problem carrying with one in the pipe because it’s rigid and completely covers the trigger. I use a Trace Tarco pocket holster with my S&W Bodyguard – again covers the trigger plus it’s DAO so the trigger pull is long and heavy. It’d scare me to carry a striker-fired pistol like the XD in a soft holster with a round chambered – too sensitive.
