  1. 20+ years ago, I worked across 25-30 branches of a large bank. It was a fun position because I was never at the same location for longer than a week or two. I found out the coin machines had magnets by the feeder to catch things like paper clips, but they also caught steel pennies.

Every time I stopped at a new branch I would ask the tellers if there were any pennies in the magnets or if they found any interesting coins and bills. I would buy them from the tellers.

One day a teller told me she had a $500 bill. Cool! I bought it from her drawer for $500. I held onto it for a couple years, but unfortunately found myself needing $500, so I sold it to a collector for a little more than $700.

They sell for a bit more today.
