Breitbart: Climate scientist Dr. Willie Soon has urged his fellow academics to pay closer attention to the sun’s activity, which suggests several decades of global cooling rather than warming.
Speaking this week with Alex Newman of the New American, Soon, a Malaysian astrophysicist and aerospace engineer, said that “what we predict is that the next 20-30 years will be cold. It will be cold, so it will be a very interesting thing for the IPCC to confront.”
The sun is in a “weakened state” and far less active than during the 1980s and 1990s, Soon noted, which should last until “around 2050.”
“The whole climate system is powered 99.1 percent by the sun’s energy,” he stated.
Soon, a researcher at the Solar and Stellar Physics Division of the Harvard–Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, said that global cooling is a far greater source of concern than global warming.
“We will have a lot more problems were the planet to cool rather than warm,” Soon insisted. more

In all of Earth’s post-Archean (~2 billion years ago) Geologic history… There has never been an identifiable “heat crisis” that led to an extinction level event. There have been numerous “cold” extinction events. They seem to mostly line up with our galactic orbit passing through the “arms” of the Milky Way, which increases cosmic ray bombardment, leading to upper atmosphere cloud nucleation. Solar input and clouds control 99+% of our climate. This isn’t even debated any more, except by people seeking political power.
Right now it is 96 in Spokane and tomorrow it will be 103 and Saturday is supposed to be 105. I am tired of all this record heat (and smoke from all the wildfires in the NW) this Summer and I am actually looking forward to Winter this year, it’s only 3 and half months away and will be here sooner than we think. Hell, I’d almost welcome another Snowpocalypse like we had during the Winter of 2008 and 2009 just to cool things down and scare all the Californians and other wusses away who don’t like our unpredictable Winters. And besides I have a great AWD vehicle and know how to drive in the snow as much as I may bitch about it just like I’m griping about the hot weather now.

We are in an ice age, frequently referred to as the quaternary, and have been for a few million years. Ice ages have warm periods where glaciers retreat (interglacial period) and cold periods where the glaciers advance (glacial periods). These scientists seem to believe that the earth is ending an interglacial period and may be entering a glacial period.
I looked this crap up, and it seems to be the actual science. But as a progressive, I only need to follow the science I feel is actual science, so I don’t believe the actual scientists.

@ sexual harassment in the industrial revolution – we are at the beginning of a Grand Solar Minimum. I first heard about the likelihood of this happening in ’09 when Glenn Beck (yeah, I know,) was interviewing Lord Christopher Moncton. At that point they were predicting a Dalton type minimum beginning with Cycle 25, which started last year. Now it is looking like a Maunder type minimum, which was a lot longer (70 years vs 35) and a lot colder. Essentially a Grand Solar Minimum is a period of low sunspots. Sunspots are intense magnetic storms which produce solar wind which shields us from cosmic rays. With a low sunspot count, more cosmic rays get through. This means a lot more precipitation and cloud cover, and a change in the viscosity of magma, which causes more earthquakes and volcanoes (which results in more precipitation. Bottom line, it’s going to get frickin’ cold for decades.
As long as it’s not a “nuclear” winter, the cooler the better.
