The Los Angeles Olympics Won’t Have Breakdancing

Breaking will not be part of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, organizers confirmed to VERIFY.

However, Australian b-girl Raygun’s performance in Paris didn’t lead to the sport’s removal from the 2028 Games, as people online have suggested.

In October 2023, months before the Paris Games began, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) announced that the Los Angeles Olympics organizing committee did not propose breaking for the 2028 Games’ lineup. WDSF is the governing body for dancesport disciplines worldwide. More

There has been much bandied about on the zero-point performance of Australian breakdancer (and Ph.D. holder in Culture Studies), Rachel Gunn a.k.a. “Raygun.” Much focus has been on how Gunn qualified in the first place with accusations that her husband was among the judges in the trials.   1. They are saying Raygun’s full performance has been scrubbed from the internet. That’s a shame. People need to be inspired or like me joyously entertained at what she accomplished on the world stage.

  2. A couple years ago the IOC announced it was considering eliminating free style wrestling, one of the very original events, and adding Rhythmic Dance. Of course these are the same people that have no way to identify boy vs girl.
