The MERIT Act introduced by Sen. David Perdue to #FireTheSwamp

ALG: July 12, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today urged members of the U.S. Senate to cosponsor legislation by Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), the MERIT Act, that would expedite the firing of non-performing federal employees:

“We urge every member of the Senate to cosponsor and support the MERIT Act to expedite the firing of federal employees while limiting appeals to 30 days. This will make it easier for department and agency heads to remove those employees who are either simply not performing or who have engaged in misconduct. It can take years to remove a federal employee under the existing system. This antiquated approach to management, once implemented to prevent political corruption of the civil service, has instead led to an unhealthy protection of bad behavior. more

  1. My husband is in upper level management at the FAA and his salary is waaaaay lower than if he had the same position in the private sector. He also works 12 hour days. There are good government employees. That being said, one of his major complaints over the years has been how hard it is to get rid of bad employees. He says if the government ran like a business that had to make money, instead of having a readily available supply of magic money, things would be very different.

  2. sounds like a baby step when a great leap forward is needed. Civil service employees are overpaid and overprotected by their unnecessary unions. Federal unions are nothing more than a self induced cancer that the taxpayers have to fund. We didn’t get to vote on the legality of federal unions. Existing labor laws cover everything that the federal union does which makes them redundant. Federal unions have become nothing more than a cash cow for democrat politicians. This is an inequality which must be addressed.

  3. How about the DEMERIT Act for “over performing” govt employees, like Strozk, Page, Comey, McCabe etc etc. who exceed the limits of the job description and veer outside the lines of legality?

  4. Many of these government employees were hired by Democrat administrations and are nothing more than paid cheerleaders for the candidate of their choice.
If the employee is fired either cancel the pension or cut it to reflect why the employee was fired.
Let these leeches know the party is over.
