  1. A Van Morrison cassette in the car is not unlike a Doobie Bros cassette. Just fine.

I got pulled over for speeding on rt 4 and the dude asked me why he followed me for 10 miles doing 65 and I never noticed him. I said, “It’s 70 degrees, I have the windows down, and the Doobie Brothers on the tape player…”

  2. I’m 50 and only really discovered him several years ago. I had heard of him but couldn’t tell you any songs. Into the Mystic and Crazy Love are probably one of my favorite songs in my playlist.

  3. In the summer of 86 I picked up my new girlfriend for a 3 hour ride to Canadas Wonderland around Toronto where Van the Man was performing. About an hour into the drive I realized I left the tickets at home. So a 3 hour ride turned into a 5. Luckily we had left early enough and made it across the border and to the show in time.

  4. That band is great because it is the Elvin Bishop Band,
with Mickey Thomas singing background (!) for Van.

That was the year “Sure Feels Good” was a top 40 hit for Elvin, and he was on the cover of TIME (when that mattered)

“He ain’t good looking but he sure can play…”
(back when musicians were talented, not mere ‘celebrities’)
