The Most Hipster Cities in the U.S.

KFI: If you’re looking to dust off the wire-frame glasses and pack up your locally sourced, vintage mason jars that you eat and drink everything out of to a new city, good news! MoveHub has looked at 446 cities across 20 countries to find out which one is the most hipster city in the world.

How does one figure out how hipster a city is? Well, MoveHub used five data points which included:

  • Number of Vegan eateries*
  • coffee shops*
  • tattoo studios*
  • vintage boutiques*
  • record stores*

(*Per 100,000 residents)

The site combined and weighted the five data points to come up with the Hipster Index of a city. Using that score, they began the process to determine who would take the title in 2018 (pretty sure the title also comes with a used flower crown from Coachella).   LIST

  1. Damn Spokane is # 10. Someone must be mixed up, we used to be such a nice one horse town that everyone wanted to get out of as soon as they graduated from HS including me. But I came back after I got out of the Navy and have stayed here most of life trying to hide away from the rest of the country. I did it again and forgot to post who I am as Geoff the aardvark.

  2. Portland and Seattle are already on my shit list.

“Hip” is a word that should be on top of the ash heap of overused words that do not have a real definition. Every weirdo in the world uses the word in the hope that he or she will be recognized as hip. Who’s hip? People who use the word.

    That’s somehow kind of circular.

  3. My name was signed in the text dumb ass. Don’t attack or make fun of someone unless they are available to defend themselves. In other words, man up. That’s a cheap shot. But hey, I’m old. Maybe you think it’s acceptable. I never will.

  4. Everybody is available here, or could be….Your header said ‘Anonymous’ and I fully realized you typed your name in the text….I’m old too, so we got that in common….LOL….

  5. Using some one else name here use to be grounds for being BLOCKED. I see things have changed. Was about a 30% fan of African Bobs. I tried to take in account he wasn’t from here. He did have an interesting story to tell. You’re being a dick. You must be young.

  6. No, your wrong. I never used Africa Bob’s identity. His avatar said Africa and the name Bob followed. If you see I didn’t use an avatar.
Yeah, I read Africa Bob but he grew tiresome. That’s his right, I just started skipping over his comments….
You’re being a dick and I believe we are the same age….
It’s a joke man, intended to be humor….would you deny me the right to try to be funny just because my statement offends you?…some might find my comment humorful and some might find it humorless….you’re the humor monitor now?…

Expect the type of harridan who uses “man up” to find humor? Sad.

Didn’t find any humor in it. My code of ethics dictates don’t attack someone if they are not available to defend themselves. How old fashion.

Who’s the pussy here? I say you. Divulge your name, and lets get it on. Or better yet, enjoy your life being chicken shit.

  9. Salt Lake City may be home base for Mormons but it is also where Utah liberals of all stripes congregate. (They like cities, of course.) It is one of two counties in the entire state that votes democrat.

  10. When will the studies come out reflecting the cities with the most unpatriotic, indoctrinated assholes.

It would more than likely be the reprint of the Hipster cities.

  11. The software has erased all my info too.

    New IOTW Tagline:

    “We are all Anonymous now”

We should use this as prep for the Witness Protection Program.

  12. There are some additional indicators;
    micro/craft beer breweries
    barber shops/grooming stores
    Noodle/Pho eateries
Cross-fit type gyms based on group-oriented workouts

  13. There is a minor problem signing in, easily addressed by commenters.
I tend to ignore anonymous posts unless name appears under the comment. I seldom TU the ones I read.

    I never trusted Africa Bob.

  14. Yes, Salt Lake City has almost completed the transformation to be the inland Portland. I suppose the next step is to move further left and emulate Seattle. They may lose their newly won distinction, now that the homeless are being forced out to the suburbs (to my neighborhood, to be exact).

Property owners and businesses are losing patience with the Mayor and have begun lobbying the Legislature to circumvent the City. Operation Rio Grande, the expulsion of the homeless from Downtown, was foisted on the Mayor by Greg Hughes, the Speaker of the House.

I predict that the City could lose its charter and be taken over by the State. Property and business owners and commuting workers need to have a larger say in how the city is run.

  15. @ Geoff – Here I could not help myself!

The seventh one to say ‘I AM Spartacus’ is George Kennedy, a former army captain and GREAT actor that died a couple of years ago.

He was great in the Dirty Dozen and Cool Hand Luke made in the SAME year.

    BFH,

Back to that IOTW – tagline?

    IOTW – Where Spartacus speaks!
