I recommend On Desperate Ground by Hampton Sides, about the Marines at Chosin. An excellent account. There were a few US Army guys around the reservoir but it was mainly a USMC deal.
There was a very strange occurrence when the Marines were getting away from there. When they came to the bridge at Toko-Ri (I think that was the name), the bridge was half ruined and the base of part of it was gone. The Marines needed a strong enough bridge to get their tanks and trucks over, so they rebuilt it using the frozen bodies of dead NKs or Chinese soldiers.
