“The Turn” – That’s what happens when a leftist realizes that the left’s ideas are asinine

Tablet-

You might be living through The Turn if you ever found yourself feeling like free speech should stay free even if it offended some group or individual but now can’t admit it at dinner with friends because you are afraid of being thought a bigot. You are living through The Turn if you have questions about public health policies—including the effects of lockdowns and school closures on the poor and most vulnerable in our society—but can’t ask them out loud because you know you’ll be labeled an anti-vaxxer. You are living through The Turn if you think that burning down towns and looting stores isn’t the best way to promote social justice, but feel you can’t say so because you know you’ll be called a white supremacist. You are living through The Turn if you seethed watching a terrorist organization attack the world’s only Jewish state, but seethed silently because your colleagues were all on Twitter and Facebook sharing celebrity memes about ending Israeli apartheid while having little interest in American kids dying on the streets because of failed policies. If you’ve felt yourself unable to speak your mind, if you have a queasy feeling that your friends might disown you if you shared your most intimately held concerns, if you are feeling a bit breathless and a bit hopeless and entirely unsure what on earth is going on, I am sorry to inform you that The Turn is upon you.

  1. I know a few people who could make The Turn but they cling to the January 6th “insurrection” as a lifeline. Things have to keep getting worse-$6 gas and a 6th booster might do it.

The true believers like those who don’t want Savant recalled in Seattle (she’s going to beat the attempt) are immovable objects.

  2. I really don’t believe the author of this piece converted to anything – his leftist beliefs were questioned by other, more hard core leftists, and now he’s not part of the gang. Sure, he can now claim to be more to the right – but only because people on the right still believe in values such as freedom and the right to be a leftist jackass.

I went to a liberal university. I lived with and associated with hard core liberals. I’m sure I met some reasonable liberals along the way, but I can’t think of any right now. To a person, most leftists are myopic, egotistical and ignorant folks who discount any factual evidence contrary to their beliefs, believe in the infallibility of big government, and parrot what their leaders tell them to say because someday, they have a pipe dream of being colleagues with those leaders. They may not exactly be the antagonists in Orell’s 1984, but they are close.

Ironically, I am more of a “liberal” than these leftists, and leftists are more facist than any conservative I’ve met. CRT is designed to keep blacks in their place. Democrat economic policy hurts poor people worse than any other economic group. Regulation is largely designed to protect big business and create barriers to entry for entrepeneurs and small business. Religion is important to me because it provides a moral compass and has proven to be a better way to live, but I’m backward because I don’t worship the state. I hate all of this, but if you listen to the media, I’m the fascist hell-bent on trampling the rights and livelihoods of others

Very well said. Leftism is a religion for most of the non-elites. For the elites, they don’t really believe this stuff, they see it as the best way to power, money, and control. That is what this is really about, Elite control of the population for the benefit of the elites. All this while trying to maintain the illusion that the elites are helping the poor. It’s just a charade to appease the masses until you have gained unassailable power. See Venezuela to figure out how this turns out. An extreme example, but that is the endpoint.

  4. Be confident in what you know to be true. And realize you can’t teach a pig to sing: it wastes your time, and aggravates the pig.

I remember well how my father would dismiss stupid people with a chuckle and a smirk: “Listen to this one!”

  5. The most important concept that has been lost in these kinds of discussions of right v left is the search for the truth. Each side has its facts and the battle is waged over whose facts are accurate. And even in this pitched battle of facts, it’s not whose are accurate because media decides the the victor, regardless.

Sarah Palin can see Russia from her porch. Michael Brown said “Hands up, don’t shoot”. Hunter Biden is an artist. Trump colluded with the Russians to win the 2016 election. Jussie Smollett was attacked by Trump-supporting white supremecists. Men can have babies.

What has been lost in these arguments is the desire to know something far superior — the truth.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.”

Every single thing in the world is based on this. Every problem in the world is a spiritual problem. Where the search for the truth has been abandoned, it is because Jesus Christ has been shut out. And that, dear friends, is why those — both Left and Right — who cannot be persuaded. No Jesus, no Truth. Know Jesus, know Truth.
