I was there a few years ago. What did I see?
1. FAKE housing developments. Through the telescopes, you can see they are in disrepair. Roofs have holes in them. Windows missing. Nobody going in or out. A few wooden shacks as border outposts.
2.DEFORESTATION. The red soil is exposed and peaks are red from erosion. Wood used for fuel, and to expose people hiding to maybe cross the border. A low-level MOONSCAPE.
3.FAKE ACTIVITY You see people milling around looking busy for the observers. Tending a garden in ratty clothes, and doing a lot of pointing an directing.
WHAT’S ON THE SOUTH SIDE?
Trees everywhere, housing developments 15-30 story buildings. Raised highways, factories, successful people.
The North Koreans see what’s on the other side. But the only people that get that close to the border are party members whose family would be thrown in prison if they were to make a run for it. So they don’t.
