“This is just one more example of winning back firearms freedom one lawsuit at a time”

Canada Free Press: BELLEVUE, WA – A senior U.S. District Court judge in California has issued a permanent injunction against the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s longstanding policy of “dissuading, discouraging, and preventing non-United States citizens from applying for a CCW license,” in a lawsuit brought by the Second Amendment Foundation, Calguns Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition.

SAF, Calguns and FPC were joined by the Firearms Policy Foundation and Madison Society Foundation, and Arie Van Nieuwenhuyzen, a permanent resident alien who has lived in Riverside since 1983 and is a business owner there.

The case is known as Van Nieuwenhuyzen, et al. v. Riverside, CA Sheriff Stanley Sniff, et al.

Senior United States District Judge Dean D. Pregerson entered the order permanently enjoining Riverside County from having a policy and practice that prevented legal U.S. residents from exercising their right to apply for a carry license.  read more

  1. Why is there not some sanction or penalty assessed against the sheriff, personally not paid by taxpayers, for depriving legal citizens from their Constitutional rights? His actions were extra-legal since violating the law is not an authorized function of the office of sheriff. Until they actually feel the squeeze from their actions these idiots will continue business as usual.

  2. This is great news for legal resident aliens. Now if we could just stop California sheriffs from denying U.S. citizens the right to carry, we could celebrate!

  3. Resident alien: not the same as a citizen. But we do extend or constitutional protections to legal aliens. Although, we really need to stop extending them to illegal aliens.

  4. On the surface I’m not sure why we should give a damn if non-citizens have difficulty in acquiring a CCW. In fact, I’m perfectly satisfied knowing it’s difficult. Us law abiding, tax paying citizens have a hard time in some places, especially California.

  5. Legal aliens are law abiding and tax paying.

It’s what makes them legal or they have to leave the country.

Ask my Canadian-born best friend. These are concerns he has to keep up with to make sure he can stay.

Don’t throw them in the same bucket as scofflaw illegal aliens slipping under the fence and being a cancer to us financially.

This is exactly why we want LEGAL immigrants. They follow the law.

If my best friend could not find employment in his profession – he would need to leave the country.

  6. This is a hollow “victory”….as all it does is tell the Riverside Sheriff to ACCEPT applications from noncitizen legal residents. It
in NO WAY means that a permit will be issued. Outside of very remote
places like Modoc County the odds of a citizen receiving a permit to carry are probably LESS than the odds of them winning the SuperLotto jackpot.

  7. Actually, Sheriff Sniff was defeated in November 2018 by Chad Bianco. Sheriff Bianco has already started allowing CCW classes.

I have lived in Riverside for over 40 years.
