  1. Not to diminish whoever Tommy Shaw is, but even I would sound outstanding with a full orchestra behind me.

Can they all fit in the shower with me? I promise to pixelate for the young people. /Snort.

  2. Love listening to and watching young musicians. Imagine all the proud parents of those terrific kids! My youngest was first chair violist in high school – and was that ever fun for dad!

    Thanks Claudia!

  3. Okay, I’m buying tickets July 2nd. Hopefully it’s not canceled. Won’t be the same orchestra, or any orchestra at all, but Styx and REO Speedwagon just a few miles from me, how can I not go?

  4. When one of my sons was sixteen, he made the Texas High School All-State Symphonic Band. I was proud of him but had no idea of the level of music that group of ninety kids were capable of until I went to San Antonio to watch their final concert at the Scottish Rite Theatre. I was stunned at what I was hearing and became pretty emotional from the beauty and level of perfection produced by those kids. I have a CD of the concert and play it often. Now, my granddaughter has been inspired by the music on that CD and is first chair flutist in her school.

  5. wasn’t Styx the group that hated each other? … or was it REO?

whatever … not like Gin Blossoms that kicked out their songwriter, composer, singer & lead guitarist … then launched their career as a tribute band to themselves

  6. My school district (Santa Monica – Malibu) is very fortunate. About 15 years ago Jackson Browne and the band Venice (sons of the Lennon sisters!) created an annual fundraiser concert for the district’s music program. They get 2 or 3 headliners each year, and then arrange the music to include some of the best students from the school district. I have seen America, Fee Waybill (Tubes), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Curt Smith (Tears for Fears), David Crosby, and more performing their hit songs with a huge backup of choral, orchestral, and jazz instruments. Horse With No Name with a 20-voice choral backup is beautiful! I am always excited to go – and the musicians love it!

  7. That wyas excellent. Always liked that song. Hope someday kids will be able to group again. Concerts just don’t sound very good orchestrated via Zoom.
